I don't post here regularly, but you guys have been mega helpful when I get stuck and come to ask for help, so I'll share my news.

I have been invited to go to Adobe Max in San Diego this coming November as a TA (I _think_ that stands for Teaching Assistant) where I'll be assisting my all time Photoshop hero Bert Monroy in two digital art workshops, and Katrin Eismann in Shooting for, and creating composites. Bert Monroy is the man behind the amazing Times Square illustration, which is entirely created in Photoshop, and took several years to complete. Katrin is better known for her books on Photoshop.

This will be my first visit to Max, and it's a long time since I got this excited about anything. I still have top pay for my flights and accommodation, but I get the US$1300 registration fee waived. Last year all attendees got a Fuji XT-10 mirrorless camera and 18-55mm lens, and the year before, everyone got an MS Surface Pro 3, which softens the cost of hotel and air tickets, but I'd pay double to work with Bert Monroy, and a bunch of my Adobe forum buddies will be there.

It's been quite a year one way or another. Apart from the MAX invite, I won a challenge to design the Adobe Photoshop forum banner. It's up there for three months, and I can't remember when that started, but I have a screen grab on my flickr stream The Adobe forums collectively get >1m hits a day, but they count every click of the mouse on a link as a hit.

The TA assignments have been finalised, and I am working with Dave Cross (of Kelby TV) on a Lab named 'Mastering Photoshop CC Layers, Selections and Masks'. I hoping I might actually learn something there for myself, as I am not getting the hang of the new Select & Mask workspace. :-(

Sean Duggan with 'Flights of Fancy and Imaginary Landscapes: Hands-on Creative Compositing' which is much more my sort of thing, although I have to admit to not really knowing much about Sean.

I also don't know much about Bria Lear, who I will be helping with 'Creating Your Personal Brand with Photoshop Techniques You’ll Use Every Day', but while you are asked what sort of Labs you want to work on, at the end of the day you take what is given.

But what I am totally stoked about is to be working with Bert Monroy's Lab 'Painting with Photoshop CC: Try It for Yourself' because Bert is my all time Photoshop hero, and has been a huge influence on how I use my computer. I've been in touch with all of them, and got some lovely replies, so I am as excited as I have been in a very long time.

The project I am working on right now started as an illustration to demo something, but I kept on going. Because I'd started doing everything as an illustration with no photographic content, I decided to carry on with that theme, and have surprised myself. I would normally have found and composited the wee hamster, but it is pure Photoshop. I spent an hour just making the brush for the watch chain. (shout if you want it) It's about 3/4 finished as it stands. It started as a clock, so I have to make the hands a bit more delicate, and I want to fill out the movement with more detail, but I am making it up as I go, and I don't know a whole lot about watch movements. Projects like this are an excellent way to learn and develop your Photoshop skills, and a lot of fun.

Now, I have no idea if this image is going to work for me.
