I'd quite like a GoPro or something similar for occasional use when mountain biking, at beach, etc.  Just wondering what the best options are currently?

I'm not too fussed about having the latest and greatest or really high res or anything like that, and don't want to pay too much, so I wonder if an older model would be a decent choice?  I see I can currently get a Hero+ from amazon delivered to NZ for around 205NZD.  Any better options locally or other options anyone can recommend?

( I'm also keeping an eye on Black Friday deals :) )

Well, I guess since I can get that Hero+ from amazon to my door for ~200NZD, that's the sort of budget I'm looking at :)

If you are prepared to spend that, why wouldn't you just buy it? Seems like it meets your requirements and budget?

We got a Kaiser Baas from JB Hifi a few weeks back, cheaper than GoPro, and fits same accessories.

Because I was looking for opinions on whether that's a decent buy or there are better options out there...?

Thanks, looks interesting and good price. What are your thoughts on it so far and what sort of thing have you used it for?

I've had the GoPro Session (now 4, as the 5 is out). The cube shape makes it easier to mount on things. Honestly I think half the money is in the different mounts, I have roll bar one, handlebar one, chest, all for my mountainbike. What I've come to realise is that no matter how fast I think I'm going, my riding looks very tame!

Honestly I only take it out as it was a gift. The other thing is you need reasonable computer specs for the GoPro studio software. But I think I just need more imagination when it comes to using it. I've put it on my golf trundler, then just hit record and it gets everyone teeing off and some of the banter as well. On Wednesday we had our xmas do on a boat, so I put it up in the corner of the boat and let it take time lapse photos for a few hours. Got some cool shots of us talking and fishing.

Oh and the Session is waterproof without a case.

Apparently i can't mention in a post a site called g******t but they sell the firefly6s which I have found to be very good and the best of the Chinese knock offs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8qWV6kX8egQ has review that I agree with and it was only $104 NZD delivered.

I asked a similar question a couple of months back - http://www.geekzone.co.nz/forums.asp?forumId=122&topicId=201690

Ended up buying my son an SJCAM off eBay, just being sure to find one that sold the genuine Go-Pro ripoff, not a ripoff of the ripoff!

Must say I'm really impressed with the device, including its underwater performance. We paid just over $100.

I see this week's JB Hifi catalogue has a Kaiser Bass (sp?) unit on sale; given that also gets you CGA coverage it may be worth a look...

Mostly handlebar mounted on my mountain bike. Pic quality is good, sound is crap (not the camera's fault, hard mount to bars means vibration is transmitted direct to case), controls are fiddly for playback etc.
