Hi

 

 

 

I took my Canon M5 to Wellington, and it hadn't been used since June.

 

 

 

I took a few images, but when transferred them to laptop, several didn't transfer over.

 

 

 

I get this error message when I insert the card, either directly, or using a card reader.  I have also tried it on desk top, and get same error.

 

 

 

I don't think I got the error with the existing card.

 

 

 

I went and bought a brand new card, and all images seem to have transferred over, but still get the error.  If I wait, another message come up asking what to do with EOS images or something.  I formatted the new card before I used it, in camera.

 

 

 

Any ideas please?  Do I just ignore it, or scan it?

It's hard to know what might be going on, but I guess it depends on how many images you think you're missing as to whether it's worth trying some recovery s/w on the card. Are the images visible on the camera itself?

 

I'd try another computer or two first (with different OS's) plus it could be worth trying a cable directly from the camera to a computer to see what's readable.

 

Also, are you saying that the new card has also shown an error when transferring images, or perhaps it was a message regarding the s/w required to open Canon RAW files...??

I was concerned as the laptop is new, and already had to send it away for repairs, as it gave a fan error and shut down after 15 seconds.  Initially the vendor denied there was an error, but then it happened while they were running the laptop.  Another issue I had was the USB ports stopped working.  They tested ok, so don't know what that's about.

 

 

 

I tried again today, and no error ... so will just wait and see, but if get my drive errors will go back to vendor while machine is still under warranty.

If you get an error please record it precisely, or take a photo.

 

It's probably worth running memcheck x86 on your computer. It's free, boots from USB, and runs overnight. I also suggest running HCI Memtest, which runs under windows. It can test 2GB of RAM per instance, so if you have 8GB of RAM you should run four copies at the same time. Read the instructions carefully for HCI.

Okay - so took some images, and no issue in transferring them to laptop, and no error message.

 

 

 

I will keep anote of further issues.
