for Ubuntu.

i find most free picture software too basic or too difficult for my limited skills.

microsoft 'picture it' came with the very first desktop i ever bought and it was easy to use. i kept the disc and installed it on every desktop i've had since including this one.

a year ago this desktop crapped out due to a microsoft update 😠 and could only be saved and used with the installation of Ubuntu.

so now i need new photo editing software that's compatible with ubuntu and easy to download and use. GIMP was recommended but it won't install on my pc. SHOTWELL comes with this OS but it's too basic.

with 'Picture It' i could make collages of different pictures, draw on pictures and 'touch up' pictures, eg, get rid of pimples, wrinkles, beer bottles etc and it was easy.

can anyone recommend software similar to the microsoft "Picture IT' software please?

Given that it's a Windows app, you'd need something like Wine or Mono to get it running. This is possibly drifting into the too-hard basket!

Personally, I'd go for a program I can run on Windows, MacOS and Linux:

- GIMP is overkill for basic photoediting but is worth the learning if you plan to use it long term.

- Inkscape is great for vector graphics. Version number is 0.9xx and it has developed slowly.

- Krita focuses on painting. I haven't tried it since it was not so good but looks great now.

- Digikam was not so good Windows when I had it a few years ago but always reviews better on Linux

- Pinta looks like what you want but I've never used it.
