Hi everyone, I'm new to DSLR camera. What are the best 3 lenses I should have? I'm using Canon 500D. Cheers.

Canon 50mm F1.8. Can be purchased new for under $200 and makes a nice landscape/portrait lens.

canon 17-55mm f2.8 - $1999 but apparently near L lense quality after a 1 hour chat with the camera shop re what will give my 400D the best PQ yet be flexible. he also said the 50 1.8 prime is better at 50mm but obviously can't do anything else

Given that you haven't stated your budget or intended purpose, noone can possibly give a constructive response to your question.

It *was* $162 last week until a local store re-vamped its site/pricing it seems.

But im not sure 1200 will get you 3. Most certainly not of any reasonable quality.
Your best bet would have been to start with a kit pack (cheaper to buy bundled than solo) and hock them off once you are bored

Cameras lenses make you poor!

/me looks at 70-200L 2.8, 24-70L 2.8 + filters + C-Pol

Short of sleeping with the gear, it hardly leaves my sight.
