Hey,

I was talking to an American person recently about cameras and they mentioned a mini HD video camera that they said is super popular in the US, selling out on Amazon etc. I can't remember what it was called, is it likely to be the Flip HD? It was that type of camera, just not sure if that is the model that is popular/the best?

The storage seemed quite low and there was no SD expansion from what I could see.

Cheers

While the flips are popular, your better off to get a digital still camera that can do video too. The advantages of a digital camera are:
Removable memory
Removable battery (some can even run on AAs)
Optical zoom
Takes photos too
Usually higher quality

Check this link for some digital cameras with HD video: (hope it works)

The Flip MinoHD is quite good HD quality - except in low light situations. Other than this it's very easy to use, with a big red button basically. It's very easy to use. Review here on Geekzone: http://www.geekzone.co.nz/content.asp?contentid=8542

That is what I was thinking, upgrade my digital camera to one that does HD video, but I think the flip would have a different use, it seems tougher than a camera and I could take it to places where I wouldn't take a camera, i.e. in my pocket at a concert etc.

Should decide if I actually need one and would use one or just want one because they look cool.

I have tried a couple of the small handheld ones, and the small sizeof the and the rolling shutter makes anything done on them really hard to watch with things distorting all over the place.

Some people dont seem to notice it untill you pause it, then again some people dont notice all the pixelation on TV or jpeg artifacts so perhaps I am just being extra fussy.

rolling shutter seems to be a problem for some DSLRs doing video as well. Not what you expect when paying top dollar.
