Hi guys,

What are your thoughts on these?

My wife has given me the choice of: http://gizmodo.com/5380439/jvc-picsio-gc+fm1-pocket-camcorder-bite+sized-1080p

I was thinking of flagging both and getting a new ipod touch, des the ipod HD recording match up to these?

Are products like these any good in general?

Lastly should I tell her to get me a flipHD instead?

I have a FlipHD that I got from the UK and it's brilliant. Simple to use and great quality

I say go for the JVC. I have a kodak Zi8 which is brilliant and the specs of the JVC seem almost identical to the Zi8. The JVC is smaller than the Zi8 but has more buttons from what i see.

The video on the Ipod touch is only 720p while almost all pocket camcorders are full HD now. I couldnt find a frame rate of the Ipod touch but i know that the JVC can record 720 at 60 frames or 1080 at 30, but you really only need that 60 fps if your filming fast moving things or you want to do slow motions.
Neither the Ipod or the JVC have optical zoom so zooming is almost pointless.

So it all depends on what you want your camera for. I wanted mine for filming short sport clips for my youtube channel so i have a pocket camcorder, but if you really want to do some proper filming dont bother with any of these because they dont look the greatest blown up on a T.V and can never match up to the specs of a full sized HD camcorder.

Balchy: what did you end up with and are you happy with your purchase? I am in the same boat at the moment and stuck as too which to get. Looking at the flip utrahd 2 as it has removable batteries but only records in 720p..

I decided to hold off until I could get my hands on the new Ipod touch to compare.

I was going to get my wife a touch  (hehe) for christmas, so I might get one for myself and give her my old one if the video stacks up!

Doesnt really help you though sorry!

Flips are amazing. i knew a girl whop was in charge of media for this smallish company, and they'd just grab their flip, do something stup[id, upload it with some graphics and bam! You wouldn't know what it was recorded on haha

Yeah i have the samsung camera you linked to, i do like it although their is a newer version out than the one you linked. like the jvc can do 30fps in 1080 or 60fps in 720p or less, also has cool slow montion recording which can be fun to play with. Although it films in 1080 the film is pretty grainy - i guess the sort of quality you would of seen from a good camcorder about 2-3 years ago. I don't mind this as i don't use it much and not for serious stuff but if i was planning to do dome filming at a wedding or birthday and would be showing it after the event i would want something better quality.

Their seems to be some semi-budget camcorders coming out now arounf the $200-$250 range i would liek to see what these film like - they may be a much better buy.
