Canon’s annual New Zealand and Australian online photographic competition for amateur photographers, EOS Photo5, is back on again with fresh challenges to inspire contestants to new heights.

“Designed to inspire creativity and passion in photography, the EOS Photo5 competition is based on five briefs that encourage photographic experimentation,” says Rochelle Mora, Brand Manager – Imaging, Canon New Zealand.

“Each year the EOS Photo5 competition becomes more exciting and challenging – asking entrants to push the boundaries of photographic excellence and to reach for new levels of creative expression.”

Everyday objects contained in a small brown box are sent out to registered participants and are used as inspiration for the images submitted for the five briefs. The 2010 EOS Photo5 box will include objects that will intrigue and entertain even veteran EOS Photo5 entrants when it arrives on their doorstop.

Winners will be announced on December 1, 2010. The winner of each individual brief will receive an EOS 5D Mark II premium kit (camera body and EF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM Lens) and a three-day creative photography workshop in Queenstown, New Zealand with EOS Masters Jackie Ranken and Mike Langford. The Portfolio Competition Winner will receive the same prize as the individual winners, plus an EF 8-15mm f/4L Fisheye lens and a PIXMA Pro9000 Mark II printer.

The registration period kicks off on 10 September and closes at midnight on 23 September, or once the limited number of boxes has run out. Those who miss out on receiving a box can still enter the challenge by registering for the ‘Open Brief’ up until 21 October.

To register go to http://www.canon.co.nz/worldofeos/photo5.

Thank for the heads up.

After reading the rules a couple of times i can't see anywhere that says i need to take the images with a Canon camera... I'm not adverse to using one if i win one, just don't have one at the moment as i'm all geared up with Nikon.

Now i just need to remember to sign up tomorrow and i'll be into it for sure.

Little Panasonic DMC-FT1 for me will have to do, since my Canon was stolen at my b'day party last year. :/

I would love to win this, but my photo skills are average at best. Still, why not try?

Sweet, thanks for the heads up.

I'm not that flash, but it might be a good way to push my skills a little more.

Ready to rock and roll.

I've done a few of these random competitions before and find them hugely useful for thinking a little creatively, it's one of the best ways i've found to start really developing my skills quickly and with tangible results.

Can't wait to get started.

I get the feeling that Canon doesn't actually want entrants into the competition...

No package for me yet :( Although I don't really need any more distractions at this time of year anyway.

I got an email the other day confirming my registration for the contest. It contained a link to a 10% off selected Canon gear voucher too which was a bonus... pity the PDF they linked to was a 12MB 1 A4 page beast.

Now I just need the pack to tell me what i'm photographing and to come up with some new inspiration. Love it.
