Hi
I have just bought a new laptop and I wish to use it to edit and burn DVD'S of previously shot DV tapes on my camcorder.
My laptop is a Toshiba F60/33 and the camera is a Sony TRV30E that is about 6 to 7 years old.I used to connect it to my old laptop with a firewire cable, but I bought the new laptop without checking first if it had a firewire port and alas it dosen't !  It looks like I have a compatability problem. The new laptop has a HDMI port,a eSATA/USB port and a USB2 port. The camera has a miniture USB port but only for use with the optional memery stick and an anolog output to TV sets.
Am I now in the poo connection wise or is there a way round this?
I am going to buy a new HD digital camera some time in the future but have about 50 DV tapes I wish to edit and burn to DVD'S.
Can anyone give me any ideas or suggestions?
Thankyou

Does your notebook have an ExpressCard or PCMCIA slot? If so, you can get a 1394 adaptor.

If not, you're in the poo.

If you can get access to a desktop or other laptop with 1394, use it to dump all the video to an external hard drive.

Hi Wreck90
No such luck i'm afraid. No Express card or PCMCIA either. Looks like I will have to keep my old laptop in the meantime.I have a 1TB portable drive so could transfer the DV tape to that through my old laptop, then plug the drive into my new computer and import the video to the editing programe.Does that sound that I have got it right?
Thankyou for your reply,it's appreciated.
