There is plenty of software that can record what is being displayed on your monitor, so not very safe at all.

Do you have any sort of context to your question?

Yes - programmes on internet sites that are being streamed to the general public .

Most are progressive download, but a few are true streaming videos with the added protection of being safe from downloading.

I was wondering just how safe from downloading a true streaming video site actually is and is this true of the big on demand sites?

Nothing is 100% safe, at some point it has to be decoded/decrypted and displayed.

If it is viewable you can assume it is possible to copy it in some way (even resorting to screen scraping/recording).

Streaming encrypted content from a server to a secure client application will stop the average joe but it won't stop a dedicated tech savvy geeks.

For examples see how quickly DVD, Bluerary and HDCP (used for HDMI) encryption have been cracked in the past when they have gotten in the way of geeks fair (or otherwise) use of media/content.

I guess that says it all - the average Joe will do a bit here and there but a determined Geek will get through just about anything.

Cheers for the quick and neat answers!
