I modified a GE C1033 for IR photography today (Picked it up from a bargain bin at a large retail chain for $70odd this morning) It doesn't affect the (rather poor) aesthetic at all.

All up it probably took me a grand total of 15 minutes from start to finish but only had exposed film negative to use for the IR filter so isn't ideal. Might get my hands on some Lee gel filters to trim up and see if the results vary.

The guide i very loosely followed

I'll keep playing with it and with Lightroom settings for the development of the images and see what i can come up with. So far i'm not hugely pleased with the results of any image in anything less than great lighting but we'll see how i go, might even try and sync up a bigger flash to help that out. It's a pity the camera doesn't shoot RAW but maybe i'll find a nice Canon G9-10 i can pull apart.

I tried to modify a 400D and failed badly :)
I'll try and get a second-hand 400D at some time and give it another go. I mean I've the filter for it now, which probably costs the same as a second-hand 400D, so be silly not to try.

Yeah I had an old Nikon D70 i never got around to converting so am tempted to pick another one up somewhere for cheap and give it another shot.

The compact has an IR filter that's too thin to buy a replacement for so i'm having to use gels instead which have all sorts of troubles compared to nice perfect glass ones.

I'm pretty happy poking around electronics so will give anything a go... unless i poke too hard. Then i'm not a happy chappy heh.
