Hi
Does anyone has experience of ordering camera accessories from overseas. Interested in a Canon sppedlite, but shipping charges make it moot. Could anyone suggest based on past experience a site with reasonable shipping price either in US or AU?

Yep B&H is great. 580EX II is the current model, though I think the 590 has been announced.  430EX II is cheaper, but doesn't take a high voltage battery pack. I've spent many thousands with them, no problems at all.

Shipping will cost about $60 ish, the website will give you the real cost. For one item you might find photo.co.nz or trademe might be cheaper, though consider warranties.

Adorama.com is another to look at, very similar to B&H.

I have used B&H a couple of times - all good. You do get charged GST if the value, incl postage, is over $400.
