If it does I think you're simply going to have to suck it up and accept it. Yes it may be a scam, but if the provider has advised the cost of the call very clearly I'm not too sure what grounds you can really have to claim a refund.

The provider did not advise the cost of the call in accordance with the policy, so I believe I have good grounds to claim a refund in this case. I might have to suck it up initially, as there is little time before the account is due, and getting responses from Vodafone has been an issue with people taking leave this week. We'll see..

Irrespective, I have no intention of letting this lie. I will be happy when

Spark shut this scammer's 0900 number down
Spark start taking steps to protect their reputation wrt to the 0900 system
I receive a refund of the scammed amounts

Put a complete 0900 block on your phone so you can't call any 0900, easiest way to stop this from happening again.

Update:

Spark have agreed to credit the 0900 charges in full, so fortunately we are not out of pocket after this episode. We now also have a 0900 block in place, a measure that I would thoroughly recommend to all.

It's a pity that there is no means available to report suspect numbers to Spark unless you have actually been scammed and are disputing the charge.

Ok, I did miss that one.

I have sent email to scamhelp@spark.co.nz to advise details of the scam, including that the scammer is still active but now with a new number - 0900 93000.
