When I woke up my Android phone (Huawei) kept reporting wi-fi connected but no internet. Googled, 'what's my IP'...that's definitely my home IP so not  on 4G. Why does my phone think there's no internet...Does it measure internetness in Facebook availability?

http://connectivitycheck.gstatic.com/generate_204 is the default way for android to check for internet connectivity.

For some reason Huawei changed this and it's really silly.

I really dislike Facebook, but have a weird twitch where my fingers automatically hit Ctrl-T and an abbreviation for the Facebook page when my mind wanders. Thereby ending up spending far more time getting annoyed at people on the internet.

In order to get anything done when I have nasty deadlines, I've had to resort to using Leechblock, which I have set to 1 minute of Facebook and the like per hour.

Facebook down = drop in productivity due to people trying to find out why Facebook is down and checking every 5mins to see if its up and running again yet

That feeling of hope at the thought something so catastrophic has happened to Facebook that it will never come back, dashed by the cruel realisation that it will indeed be back soon.

Interestingly my ISP, Orcon. Sent out a mass sms message advising users that Facebook and related services were down but the internet at large was up. I wonder how slammed their helpdesk was to prompt them to do that.

As mentioned in the P30 thread, I guess Huawei pings Facebook to see if it's connected or not, like Microsoft pings some domains to report "Connected" and "Connected, no Internet available" on Windows.

zocster: WhatsApp still down though.

Mine just warned me that messages may not have been sent due to having no connection - but one I tried to send about 4 hours ago just went through.

I've had no issues whatsoever on my P30 Pro today.

Interesting, I'm also on a P30 Pro. I didn't have any issues per se, just the wee exclamation mark next to the wifi symbol.
