Dial111: To be fair, FB is pretty toxic and cancerous, it should be electronically nuked from existence.

To paraphrase a comment I saw elsewhere, if democracy is a person than Facebook is the cancer that's attacking it. It's already completely taken over the right-hand extremities, but all the other parts are in trouble as well.

freitasm:

Signal.

The sole downside with Signal is that it's a multi-hundred-MB app that doesn't do much more than SMS, and whose functionality hasn't changed in years but that seems to need an update every few days.

MaxineN:

Can now resolve FB in multiple places but it's still very broken.

So it's back to normal then?

When phones have gigabytes of space, who cares what size the app is?

Not just that but signal also has a literal anti brute attack (good for celebrite that will brick said brute forcing device on people who want to peek at your phone unauthorized) just by having it installed.

And this is why you run out of space for apps and photos on a phone that started out with gigabytes of space.

The explanation, which matches what we knew: More details about the October 4 outage - Facebook Engineering (fb.com)

I'll be a skeptic on this one and come out and say this isn't the full story.

'I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced. Facebook and Instagram are down'

Sorry if thats on one of the previous pages, I'm not interested in FB enough to check.

I stole that from a webpage about the UK Royal Navy, of all places...

“The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.” -John Kenneth Galbraith
