TL:DR summary from The Verge:

YouTube is changing its community guidelines to ban videos promoting the superiority of any group as a justification for discrimination against others based on their age, gender, race, caste, religion, sexual orientation, or veteran status, the company said today. The move, which will result in the removal of all videos promoting Nazism and other discriminatory ideologies, is expected to result in the removal of thousands of channels across YouTube

About time - and good to see it's so broad-reaching.

It's no doubt going to be hard to enforce, but bravo - at least it looks like they're going to try.

YouTube Policy: specifically prohibiting videos alleging that a group is superior in order to justify discrimination

Note that it's not (government) censorship, but a corporation deciding that it's in their (shareholders') best interest to moderate content made public through their platform.

That's not to say there wasn't pressure from some governments for them to crack down, OTOH certain other governments may have been arguing that they shouldn't have - as happened when Twitter shut down some extremists.

Oh I understand that, but when a private enterprise is as ubiquitous as Youtube (and controlled by it's stakeholders) it almost becomes the same thing

I think you mean vague?

At least they're being honest with their intent to block boarderline content, whatever that means. Unfortunately, it reads very much like YouTube is going to take a position on certain issues, and enforce their views even when views expressed by content creaters are supported by fact. It's a truely worrying development, not something we should be welcoming at all.

YouTube (Google) is free to set whatever standards they like, but they should at least state exactly what those standards are.

So that would include 3 major religions then, and their followers . Not trolling, Im serious.
Their official manual (bible etc) has plenty of discrimination against, sinners, females, non believers , other religions etc, and promotes mass murder of non believers & their children
These religions are based on the writings/doctrines in their book. Therefore those religions must be banned from YT etc

can of worms ?
Current case with Aus rugby player expressing his religious beliefs shows how messy this can get.
When you start making exceptions to the rules, it becomes no more than censorship based on bias : ie the censorship itself is discrimination .
