Hey All,

On Monday I had a guy from "Google" come in to our head office in Hamilton asking for an appointment to come in and talk to us about "new features Google is rolling out for businesses". It didn't sound like he was trying to SEO, and he didn't say he was from a local web design company or anything like that. He claimed he was from Google directly and was in town for a couple of weeks going around.

I asked him for a business card to verify him and he claimed he didn't have a physical one and was going to email it to me, but I haven't received anything yet.

It seems a bit weird and I was jut wondering if anyone has come across this and their thoughts?

Cheers

Wait for the "We are actually a company that provides SEO services and work with Google" or "We can get your company listed on Google Maps" without anything to support the claim...

Google would send an email beforehand, arranging for a visit, introducing the service, etc.

Sounds like a scammer trying to get access to your computer! No way would 'Google' just drop by your business to advise you of new features, lol.

Thanks for the quick responses guys. That's what I thought. It seemed really suspicious from the start. Will see if he turns up for his appointment at 2pm...

Whatever he does - never share access to your account with anyone. If he wants to demo something, he will use his own computer - and even so DO NOT LOGIN ON HIS COMPUTER WITH YOUR ACCOUNT.

To be honest, with the scammy nature of what you have already told is, I would ensure that this guy HAS NO ACCESS TO YOUR NETWORK AT ALL,  make him do everything he wants to show you on their machine over the Cellular network,

Yes definitely do that.

If I am showing people something myself I use my cellular connection and my own device.

He never turned up for his appointment... Either he looked me up on LinkedIn and knew he wouldn't be able to bull his way through stats, or he just didn't come back around. Either way no loss to me. Thanks for the feedback everyone.
