Hello. I have recently become the convener of a community group of about 20 people.

We are only going to meet monthly and I would like a better way of communicating with people other than email.

I would like to be able to do messaging, share links and images, and maybe have sub groups for various projects that we work on. For free, I have a budget of $0.

We all have email accounts but with a variety of domain suffixes. I would like to avoid having everyone to join gmail or outlook or facebook, but just use their own email account.

My knowledge of this space is pretty limited, but I have heard of Discord and Slack.

Is there any other platform I should be considering? And is Discord really just for gamers?

Thank you.

No, can use Discord for anything really. Its quite good, Im using it with mates for our game and geek stuff. Its free, so try it out with a few users for a bit.

90% of our channels are open, with a few locked down - such as admin, R18 etc.

Slack would be similar.  I'm in a few slack workspaces, but also have one for home (notifications etc).  No money down.
