Channel Nine currently in panic mode as their automated broadcast system is under attack, supposedly from Russian state actors - suspicions that it could be in response to a documentary they are about to air that does not paint Mr Putin in the best light.

There is also a claim that Government and Defence IT systems have been shut down, but not necessarily that the two are linked.

Be interesting to see if it is actually an attack, or if John from accounts has just opened the latest "lolz catz" attachment from his mate in Nigeria...

Given this happened just after they moved into their new site I wonder if any extra equipment was "installed" on their network. Perhaps an extra router or wifi access point??

Breaking News - Press Release - Channel Nine Network

1 April 2021

RE: Recent Automated Broadcast System Outages

We've got to the bottom of our disruptions over the last week.  It turns out that Gladys who heads up the cafeteria team in our flash new building was never advised that you should not have the kettle and the toaster plugged into the same double power outlet on the wall.  This has resulted in the fuses blowing for the that cafeteria outlet, which it turns out is on the same circuit as our critical broadcasting infrastructure.  This explains our national broadcasting issues that have made news around the world, and why our CEO Mr Hugh Marks has been complaining that his coffee is luke-warm since we moved in.  Our janitor did temporarily resolve the situation yesterday by replacing the fuse wire with a nail.  In an odd coincidence, there was a small electrical fire in the fuse board an hour or so later that was quickly extinguished.

We sincerely apologise to Australia for the interruption to all recent Wiggles broadcasts, and wish to advise that Gladys has moved the toaster to the other end of the bench.

Sincerely
The Channel Nine Executive Team
