@Sam91 This is a common misassumption with Chromebooks.

1) Yes you can do document editing on a Chromebook offline - you do need to download the Chrome addon to make this happen.
2) There are also many other things you can do offline.
3) Not everything on a Chromebook requires being connected to the internet. I'd often watch movies stored on mine for example.

Once Android apps for ChromeOS comes in early next year it'll also take care of other things such as Microsoft Office where as from next year you'll be able to run the Android version of Microsoft Office on a Chromebook.

I had an old Dell Latitude laptop running windows XP which I turned into a chromebook via CloudReady from Neverware. Best thing I ever did.

How easy is that to do?

I figured it out with the documentation on the CloudReady site. You just download the software onto a usb stick and boot the laptop via usb. I encountered a slight issue but figured it out via the forums. I'm by no means a computer technician.

Can you do Microsoft Remote Desktop on a Chromebook?

I'm thinking of selling my MacBook Pro and get something cheaper, as all I seem to use it for these days is remote desktop to my Win10 VM at the office!

Yes - there are Chrome Apps that support it quite well (have done so on mine).

Sam91:

If you do buy new, buy direct from Apple using Education Store, it will save you around $90 on a Macbook Air. Check around first though, as there could be a special somewhere else that is cheaper.

My daughter was able to get JB HiFi to price match the Education Store pricing on her Macbook Air. May be worth considering.

Cloud spending continues to surge globally, but most organisations haven’t made the changes necessary to maximise the value and cost-efficiency benefits of their cloud investments. Download the whitepaper From Overspend to Advantage now.

Great thanks, just ordered an ex-demo 14" HP Chromebook from our supplier so will see how it goes.
