Behodar: It's a Warcraft server (specifically Bronzebeard).

Which ISP is that? BigPipe? That second hop is supposedly Pennsylvania *confused*

That does indeed help. I think I might give it a shot, as those stats look better than my current ISP at first glance, and with no contract there's nothing to lose! Can you please PM me an invite? :)

Hey, sounds quite cool. One question I have though is around the network level unblockus stuff.

This was tried in the past by fyx but promptly killed out of what I can only assume was pressure from content providers. Should you face similar pressure, how do you think that might be handled?

In saying that, fyx came out swinging with an advertising push etc, whereas you are keeping it much simpler. Good luck!

I believe that it was actually due to the Vocus buyout.

Question for Mynxnet: If I sign up with ADSL now and then switch to UFB when it becomes available in October, will that incur any additional setup fees? Would I still get the $80 ADSL connection fee refunded after a year?

Also, am I correct in assuming that your UFB is available everywhere that Vibe is (in this case, Whakatane)?

Yep seeing our wholesaler is Vibe we can cover what they cover. As for changing over to UFB, I think we can work something that works for us both. We are pretty flexible at this point, and are more than happy to make things cost effective for existing customers.

I would be hard pressed to say what happened with fyx, there was, at the time, much speculation as to the driving forces behind their decisions.  I can say that as a company we would have handled this very differently.

The service was pulled by the directors of Maxnet/Fyx for personal reasons I won't discuss. It had nothing to do with the huge media attention it received, pending acquisition or any legal pressure. If you heard or read anything to that effect it's simply incorrect.

Good luck with your start-up, I wish you well.

Well I've decided to bite the bullet and have placed an order. Your ADSL is about $35/month less than what I'm paying now so it's worth a shot :)

My connection went live today. All I've done so far is log into WoW; 154 ms to a west coast server (Bronzebeard). That's about the same as with Fyx. However an east coast server is another story; 210 ms to Stormrage, instead of 230 with Fyx.

Hulu works too :)

PS. This is an ADSL2+ connection in Whakatane. From what I've heard, the latency should get even better when fibre goes in :)
