Anybody used these New Zealand Business Funding Centre (http://www.innovationcouncil.org.nz/index.php/get-funded/item/new-zealand) or heard anything about them? I am new to getting funding and was just wondering if I could get any feedback on how it all worked out for you or opinions on the matter.

I wouldn't say "scam". I would say, from reading the description, they're just a directory. Sure, you can pay to access a directory. Or you can do the leg work and find it through other community groups.

Where are you located? Have you tried incubators such as IceHouse, Grow Wellington, etc?

I have tried a similar funding directory as well. It was definitely a waste of time.

A better option was Angel Investments where we did get some interest but were still unsuccessful.

Icehouse looks a lot better but we have not tried them yet.

Hello,

I am the NZBFC's content manager. No, the company is not a "scam" -- it is an information resource that collects information on NZ government funding spread across various, separate government websites, and makes it all available in one location. As was mentioned up thread, it is a directory.

Whether this is of value to a person is up to them to decide as an individual, but it is by no means a scam (we do, after all, have successful clients who attribute getting funding to our services -- scams don't have successful, satisfied clients.) Exactly what we provide is explained during every sales call with one of our representatives.

Unfortunately, no matter how clearly this is explained, there are people who expect our services to be some sort of magic key to government funding, regardless of how viable their business idea or application may or may not be, and shout "scam!" when the government turns them down or they realise there is more to the application process than they expected. Our services cannot help everyone, but they are legitimate, and they have undeniably helped entrepreneurs get funding.

Feel free to ask any specifics if you would like clarification.

Regards,

Steven Trustrum
NZBFC Content Manager
