I thought it would be fun to have a few .KIWI domain names Until I saw that they want $345 EACH!
Is it just me or are they having a lend of us?

I could go now and buy KIWISFOREVER.com for $1.99USD

$345 seems a little high guys!

Trying to get their money back quickly. Not cheap to buy a top domain like that, but I think they would do better with a more reasonable pricing.

On the other hand, it means the squatters will keep away making it more likely that you can get the domain you want.

I'd like to see .co.nz domains go to $200 a year. Lots of room in .gen.nz etc if you want a cheap name.

$200 a year would mean a huge chunk of genuine web users would bow out of using a personalised domain name. There's nothing wrong with the pricing as it is. One of the problems with squatting comes from not having to validate your requirement for the domain you wish to purchase.

I would like to see .NZ ones regulated like with .au ones, so only NZ companies can buy them. They are likely to have just .nz ones soon too, so can't see much of a need for .kiwi. Plus you have also already got .kiwi.nz. But I think just .nz is the best.

Well I can prove who I am (for a personal domain) and I can prove ownership of my company (for a business domain).

That's obviously not going to be the end of it, but I never said it was something easily solved!

They do validate them in OZ, so it can't be too difficult or expensive to do, as Oz domains are relatively low priced.

If the domains went to $200 a year I would dump my .nz domains and move to overseas ones. The price is fine at present, but I agree there needs to be more validation when it comes to buying domains. Sick of searching for .nz domains only to find its owned by some moron overseas who has a search links page on it.

Are the .kiwi domains $345 forever or just currently while they are doing pre-orders? I see early-bird purchases don't open up until March. After that who knows what the cost will be. Hopefully not a lot because I'd like to buy one.

and lets face it .KIWI arn't there for there health its to make money.

I was just dissapointed they didn't go for the man in the street fredsmith.kiwi etc

Maybe they will do a Dick Smith or Briscoes "Was $345 Special Deal for Real kiwis for a short time only $50!!!"

FYI Registering a Australian Business name allows me to buy a .com.au I dont think it was that expensive?

I was surprised that here there was no requirement to register a name before i got a .co.nz

I totally disagree with the idea of charging $200 for a .co.nz quickest way to get everyone buying a .com.

The reality is that for business these days before you decide on a business name you should check that you can get the .com and .co.nz and even maybe the .net at least. Of course if you are planning business in the UK etc etc.

The thing to remeber is that once you go north of the equator everybody assumes .com remember 95% (yeah I bet its about that) have never heard of New Zealand !

BUT the average kiwi likes to believe they are buying or helping the kiwi economy. They assume that if the address .co.nz must be a kiwi business or here in NZ.
So if you are running a business here in NZ you should have a .co.nz as the gateway.
