Hey all,

The wife has started her own business making furniture, mainly out of pallets.
For the last year she's been at home and trying to get a job, one that fits around picking up the gremlins from school.
Sadly no opportunities have come up so she's doing her own thing now.

Soo... over the last few months she's made a lot of things, corner bars, bar leaners, dog kennels, seats and tables etc..
She's a crafty one and can make almost anything, well give her a while and she'll figure out how.
In time and she'll make me a pool table, lol Tui ad right there.. :)

So I thought I'd see if anyone is interested in custom made furniture, varnished, painted, indoor, outdoor, office desks etc
We are in Hamilton but have a trailer so can deliver, sorry but we're restricted to Auckland/Waikato/B.O.P and Taranaki regions at the moment.

If anyone's interested please contact her on her facebook page.
Like her page and check it out

Nice. Suggest you throw up a website in order to get better SEO. Wordpress on cheap hosting will do nicely.

the best exposure to low-midrange market.

I think the high end shoppers still go to expensive shops in town.

Yeah sold a few things on trade me but the success fees are harsh..
She's making planter boxes a lot lately, made lots of stuff for home too..
She's keen to do bar and office furniture, she's pretty good at that.

So put your prices up on there to cover them. Still cheap advertising IMO.

Your best bet in my opinion is to sell at the markets. I don't live in your area, but around Hamilton and South Auckland there will be a lot of weekend markets where people sell crafts/vegetables. Buy a fold down table and set it up with the planter boxes and things on it and prices. Take along a photo album to show people pictures of the larger furniture items that you can't bring with you. Also print out flyers with photos on them and your contact details so people can take it away - this part is important as people will forget your name as soon as they've left.

Some markets charge sellers a fee, and others don't. Call the organiser to find out the details.

Definitely set up a webpage and don't forget to blog about every new item and rave about how good it is. Wordpress and Google both offer free websites.

There are also annual craft shows but you'll have to pay some sort of fee to participate.

planter boxes are so expensive at mitre10 etc, you could make a killing on those (I ended up just getting wood and making it for about 1/10th of what mitre10 were asking for).

agreed with wordpress site (a few bucks a month + domain name (~$30 a year)).  Also you can put up a few things on trademe, make your trademe name the same as your domain then people can easily find yourwebsite (also include the domain in some pictures :)).

Cheers for the support..
We're going to a market this weekend.. see how that pans out..
Trade me is just not worth it at the moment.. Sold a seat for $120, cost 80 to make.. trademe took in total about 20 so that leaves 20 for a few hours work..
She's just starting out so things will get better.. already had lots of positive feedback too..
Thanks guys.. I'm looking at getting a domain on payday too :)

That outdoor furniture is excellent. You really need a web site.

I use facebook only on one system and I had to wait nearly a week before I looked at it : ).

Remember you are likely to find out how robust some of it is after the sale so have a warranty policy and put a bit of time aside for fix up.

What fastening type are you using at present?

Agree. Trademe is a good platform. Trusted and credit card processing etc. Just use a higher price for that platform to cover commissions.
