I grew up in Norwich, England and I use to go skiing pretty 6 months of the year on a dry ski slope. I've always seen it's a missing sport in Wellington (or any other city). How feasible is it in Wellington to have a dry sky slope constructed and where?

I have no idea how much it would cost to build, but the operational cost would be cheaper than Snow Planet in Auckland. I just think its a great idea.

Fyi you are not skiing on grass!.

I heard there was one in Queenstown, and found this article

Indoors so perhaps not as big as it could be. Would be interesting to give this a go.

You'd think it would be relatively easy to arrange in Wellington - no problems finding a slope anyway!

It must of been around since the 80's and the ski slope I use to go to use to have upgrades and extensions over the decades. When snow boarding in the early 90's came about, the slope was easily modified to literally creating a wedge under the mats to makes jumps.

Pretty sure there was something similar to this in Pinehill, North Shore. As kids we went exploring and found the remains of such a slope. This was the late 90s, so it was gone by then. Its location was right next to the current Northern Motorway just after Greville Road. They're finally developing the area where it used to be located.

Anyone go there when it was open?

Is this something I would have driven past on the way to Albany from the CBD? Green coloured ski surface from memory?

Built, opened, went broke and closed in the 1980s from memory.

That would be it. I remember finding rubber squares left behind. From memory they were green which matches what you recall. Interesting to know it was there in the 80s.
