Over the last six months, I've been working on this passion project called Good Numbers. Having worked and volunteered in small non-profits for over a decade, I know that the numbers are often the last thing to get done, which causes stress.

AI and open banking are really changing the game in this space, and I wanted to put that to good use. We have:

  • A year-end tool for charities that combines your information from the Charities Register with bank data retrieved via Akahu to draft year-end financial statements.
  • An upcoming app that will work for a broader range of non-profits and is more something you'd use day-to-day.
  • Guides and other helpful tips related to non-profit finances that I don't see anywhere else. The most popular one recently has been how to open a bank account for your charity.

I would love thoughts and feedback on this startup.  As we're still new, I'm also looking for a small handful of small charities that I can work with one-on-one through our year-end offering or the app to see how they use it. This would be totally free, no cost obligation to the group at this time.

Thanks - from this long-time lurker but first-time poster on Geekzone!

This looks like an awesome idea (I say as someone that has been "co-opted" more than once to help out with sport club/NFP issues)!

I've had a quick look at the website - can I check whether you intend this to work for sports clubs under the banner of NFPs? They're almost always incorporated societies, but the orthodox view is they're not charitable so not eligible for charities registration. They have to file their annual return and financials with the Companies Office. If so, might be worthwhile calling out on your website expressly.

Thanks mdf!

In short - yes, sports clubs and Incorporated Societies are most definitely included. Particularly with the new reporting requirements under the Incorporated Societies act.

The longer answer: the Tier 4 tool uses Charities Services API, which includes financial data. There is no equivalent available for incorporated societies or companies. So the model for this fast turnaround year-end really only works for registered charities. The more full featured app will work for incorporated societies, as the increased work to onboard them makes sense. So I'll be increasing the emphasis on those once it launches early next year :)

Super. Will give it a look when I get the chance.
