Has anyone tried using these in NZ? I've just got one of their robot vacuums which is pretty awesome and was thinking about trying these sockets out as well.

Yes, only used with their own app so far, works ok with that but lots of the app is in chinese.

Have to be on the chinese cloud server to set these up, which if you use the yeelights will mean that they wont work with alexa/home

Not looked into controlling from anything else yet, just use as a way to power cycle some gear, so not sure if the timers will work here or all be in chinese timezone like some other wifi sockets I got.

Also the shutter on the AU socket is opened by the earth pin, so 2 pin AU plugs are almost impossible to get in. They dont use 2 pin style there, anything 2 pin has a US or EU style plug on it which is why they all take both those plugs too.

Ah that's a bit of a pain with plugging in a 2 pin NZ/AU plug. I've had to deal with similar with malaysian/UK plugs so can probably work around it.

Was planning to connect them to HomeKit via homebridge running on my computer :)

I have got the Zigbee version with gateway and they are pretty good.I'm using Domoticz to automate my stuff but you can use Home Automation to hook them up with your Google Home.

I'm using them with Temp/Humidity + Presence sensors to turn on fans,dehumidifier and night lights.

The only issue is the shutter on the earth pin and the non-standard size as it covers switch on the wall outlet.

I may have solved the shutter problem with a needle tipped superglue for good on one of mine. Really annoying that they cant change the design ever so slightly and make them in a legit AU plug version.

I have one I'm testing, works well and integrate nicely into Openhab, however it physically does not fit very well in some wall sockets .. see the pic below :

It is nice that it will ervert back to it's previous on/off state if power is interrupted and it logs how much power it uses. I think I'll get some more of them.

Dimensions of the zigbee and wifi ones are slightly different too, no power usage on the wifi version.

Yeah they looked similar to some adapters I have, I like that I can use some of my various international plugs in them too - its like buying an adapter and getting the smart plug functionality for free :)

same experience. cant plug a 2 prong plug into mine, earth must be the safety and wont let you put in the others.

using it with node-red (theres a xiaomi plugin for it), works ok, havent done a lot with it, just turning the kids tv off every night at 9.

I got sick of the wemo ones, theyre so bulky (but let you put in a 2 prong plug) and one of mine is playing up like made and will turn on/off constantly in a loop.

the xiaomi ones are cheap, but im not super convinced on them yet. cheap enough to gamble on to try though.

Regarding the two prong issue - I have a couple of the Broadlink plugs, and they are the same. I can get a two-prong plug into it by using a paper clip at the top of the earth socket to pull down the plastic 'doors' on the Live and Neutral pins. Obviously I do this with the unit unplugged.

I've gone back to my Xiaomi smart sockets a few times. Each time I put them away again after too many spontaneous sign outs or impairing by the app, it's easier to get up and flip the switch by hand.

I've had half a dozen working for around a year now, had no problems with them except for the two-prong thing, which I've overcome by using a travel-adapter plug if it's an infrequently-used item, or replacing the two-prong plug with a three-prong one when it was going to be a more permanent solution.

Not had any problems with app time-out, but that's because I use home-assistant to control the switching, and do everything locally rather than using the cloud.

Does it work with any locale other than Mainland China? I've found I can only pair my plugs using that locale

I think the Mainland China thing is required - I know I had to switch to that in the app to get the local control stuff to work.

I'm pretty keen to pick up a couple of these, but I'm absolutely not interested in any Xiaomi app. Anyone have any luck with getting these working with something like homebridge?

Also, what's the better version to get? The Zigbee or WiFi?

And while I'm here, anyone ripped one apart to see what the internal quality is like? I'm always skeptical of anything mains-related from Aliexpress after reading stuff like this.
