Hi All

Just wondering what hose I need to connect a BBQ to a Outdoor Hose Connector (it has Type 1 on it).

This will work right?

https://www.mitre10.co.nz/shop/gasmate-90-degree-qcc-lpg-regulator-with-1-5m-hose-black/p/295255

Or maybe an extension as the regulator seems attached to the BBQ itself

thanks

Got a photo of what you're dealing with?

Image of the outdoor connectors, there doesn't appear to be any threading on the inside.

The outdoor gas is then connected to 45KG bottles.

Then just standard BBQ connections

Natural gas is mostly methane whereas LPG is a propane/butane mix. In more precise applications like water heaters, you definitely need to replace nozzles and regulators due to the differing densities and other behaviour. I'm not sure if you can 'get away' with it in a BBQ.

Some manufacturers sell 'natural gas conversion kits' that include replacement hose with a bayonet fitting, regulator, and new injectors. You probably want to find one for your model.

Except you're running plumbed LPG, not plumbed natural gas... probably contact manufacturer.

As noted the gas outlet I want to connect the BBQ to is connected to 45Kg LPG bottles, not using natural gas.

The plan is to stop buying 9KG swap bottles and use the larger 45Kg that are used for heating, water and cooking instead as its cheaper than 9kg bottles

There are adapters for it but when a friend asked about it there was some reason that it needed a different regulator because of the pressure difference, and it wasn't a simple matter of putting a bayonet to threaded adapter, and then a threaded to QCC adapter together and using the existing regulator.

The price was so high that it negated any savings unless it was going to be used really heavily. Same applied for the patio heater. LPG in 9kg bottles is crazy expensive but the saving just was not there.

Right so you have 45kg supplying gas appliances inside your house. So supply should already be regulated to a pressure your BBQ will work with. They run on the same pressure as gas cooktops and water heating. Where are you located? You basically need a bayonet hose, will have the correct fitting to go into that bayonet fitting, and a fitting to suit BBQ on other end. I only know places in CHCH as i'm based in that area.

No idea what was going on in the above example where it was found to be uneconomical. Supply is regulated by the time it gets to the chrome socket, so you plug the correct hose it and that's it, done.

The above post is based on a quick look at your photos and what you've said anyway. Could be worth taking photos and measurements of what you have, and finding a place local to you that can make you up a hose to suit. Off the shelf may be fine too, just hard to know as some BBQ may be oddball fittings.

Purely for examples sake: https://combustioncontrol.co.nz/hose-bayonet-10mm-x-3-0m.html
That is likely what you are after.

EDIT

I should probably mention I have been a certifying gasfitter in the past. No longer paying my fees as not working in that job now, so technically just a Joe Bloggs. Happy to answer further questions, just keep in mind i'm just offering up my opinion and you shouldn't rely on it as being 100% correct in your situation. I used to install those bayonets a bit and we'd usually make the hoses onsite as required.

Thanks @froglotion.

That example looks like it has the right fitting to connect to the outside fitting!
