It's my fault, I swapped from Flick yesterday... My transfer hasn't gone through yet, so hopefully we'll get a month at the lower rates if they don't send notice until after we've swapped over.

I've just switched over to the Movemaster plan from the Payahead 200 - literally got the first bill today with some days on the new rates, and it was certainly looking to be significantly cheaper on this new plan. Now we're also facing price increases so it looks like I'll only get a few weeks of the full benefit! (It would be interesting to have seen what prices we'd have faced on the old plan.)

With the increases, peak and night are both up 5.1%; shoulder up 17.7%; I should be back at work in a few weeks instead of fulltime WFH, so the impact of that significant rise in shoulder charges shouldn't be too great in the end.

I do appreciate EK's fairly straight-forward approach to explaining changes to its charges, like their billing overall - unlike most utilities. The one thing they should do, though, is provide notification of increases inclusive of GST. At least they provide both current and new rates in these emails (not something all providers do).

Are they increasing the low user fixed charge as part of their increases? It was 34.5 cents a day, but some retailers have doubled the daily charge to 69 cents. I think flick is also 69 cents. I think Frank energy looks the cheapest rates with no gimmicks in my area.

Just like before I'll compare with other providers but otherwise essentially stay put. EK have been pretty good as a provider and always been rather competitive. I know pricing changes are coming in from all providers currently but my advise is compare, but also remember on EK you're not contracted where other providers you often are (or the price is fixed) - almost always you'll pay more in the long term with fixed pricing.

@michaelmurfy surprising how much more the per kwh charge is an hour up the road, but the daily charge is half what I pay. The last week I paid $45 for power, on your rates I'd be paying $56, both inc GST.

I'm on standard rates - high electricity user + have an EV. A bit of a bugger it is going up though!

84.77% of my use falls in off-peak currently.

To quote directly from the email:

You may be aware that regulations setting the daily rate for low users have changed. As a result, many power companies are now increasing daily rates for their low user customers to the regulated maximum of 60 cents per day. You will see below that we’ve decided to hold your daily rate at 30 cents per day. We have done this based on customer feedback, and we hope this will reduce pressure for our customers on low user plans.

Don’t mention how long they will hold them for. It is odd that some are increasing them by an extra 9 cents above the maximum permitted 60 cent amount.
