Well that was interesting to say the least, got a reply back from Ryobi, stating that "be informed that the RLM18X36L40 has already been replaced by R18XLMW24 (RYOBI 18V HP 37CM LMAW 4AH KIT) and it is available." - So they replaced it with one that is nearly $100 more expensive than the one I was looking at.

Checked it out, seems good, then I spotted the one for $369 which seems to have a 36cm blade, decided even tho it was more than I wanted to pay to get it.. - Opppps no stock for instore or click and collect.. Delivery still had a green tick so decided to go that way, added to cart and wouldn't you know it "this item is not available" popped up. - Sheesh bunnings can be a pain in the butt sometimes. - Might see if I can email Ryobi and ask them if they can send more of the $369 ones to bunnings :P

You have to change the delivery branch yourself to find one that has it in stock. Would think that they would be able to do that automatically but no, too hard for them. I find new lynn and westgate are usually the best for having the whole order in stock so able to be done on one delivery charge.

The R18XLMW24 is a HP (High Performance) model and is also brushless. Annoying that they replaced the older model with one considerably more expensive, but it is a better mower. One thing that's interesting though, it's not clear whether the included battery is an HP battery or just a regular one.

Prices are going up massively on all the tools so this is probably a way to get that thru without it being seen as an increase.

That's the one I just bought actually. Mainly to get the brushless motor. I was just using it for a minuscule lawn but have actually been impressed enough to venture out and do some of the berm with it.

Edit. It does come with a slightly different battery to the rest of mine. I just assumed it was just an updated shape. Just had a look, there's nothing written on it to suggest it's anything different from the other batteries other than the shape.

Never heard of that brand. But I probably wouldn't think to look at an online only store to buy a mower so that's probably why. Cheap I guess, at least in the short term.

yep given you could get the ozito lawn mower from bunnings off the shelf for a similar price, and you would have way less hassle trying to return it if you have an issue.

Well it is real great, works well, it even got a mulcher in it... - I optimistic that nothing is going to go wrong with it.

A lot of cheap brands source the same components anyway. Brushless is good for more torque / battery life.

I have spend a lot more money on name brand mowers only to be dissapointed, and with a tiny piece of grass like you have I think the gamble is small.

My Ryobi was a great mower to use but the stupid plastic handle uprights broke early (never seen any admission but they no longer use that design fyi) and the mower stopped working a few months out of warranty. I'm certain it was repairable but I decided I wanted a more robust model after that so I sold it as is and bought an AEG. Much more solidly built and consequently a lot heavier to push, much better at handling longer grass if I let it get away on me, surprisingly maybe not quite as good on battery life. I ended up needing 3 batteries on both mowers to handle my lawn reliably.

After a year the back wheel fell off the AEG, I did get it fixed under warranty and it's all still working now but that more than a little annoyed me. If you buy a masport mower the wheels stay on 20 years or more.

Now all the main mower manufacturers offer electric options based on the same or similar chassis they already make if I find myself needing to replace the AEG I'm going with a brand with an established record of making mowers. At least then I know I can buy a new motor and battery and bolt it on in future if needed.

For reference I have an approx 800 sqm section but I'm on a street corner so I have road frontage on 2 sides. Takes about 45min - 1 hour to mow my law depending how long it is.

And I mulch, haven't used a catcher in 5+ years

If you're not sure about the brand sticking around maybe buy an extra battery when you can afford it and then alternate to increase the lifespan. Also if you are not using close to half the battery to mow the lawn don't feel the need to charge it every time. Lithium ion batteries wear out the most at very high or low states of charge and keeping them in the 20%-80% range is the best for long life. Charging to 100% and then using it to mow the lawn is ok, but don't charge to 100% and then leave it there for weeks at a time. You'd be better off to wait until the night before.

Thank you very much for the hints, I will be sure to remember them, and will get a spare like you suggested when I can afford it. :)

My EGo mower was new in September 2017. I got three batteries and two fast chargers. I have a big lawn and this let's me mow continuously. The batteries are 4.5 years old and I haven't noticed any degradation.

You probably won't until the battery's monitor circuit detects an imbalance in charge level amongst the cells and you just get a flashing red on the battery when you try to charge it.

There are a number of businesses popping up that claim to be able to re-pack batteries with fresh cells. I haven't tried them myself but I might soon with my smallest battery.

I have 4 EGO devices (Mower, trimmer, blower and chainsaw) and 3 batteries (5AH, 4AH and 2.5AH). My 2.5AH battery is starting to show signs of wear now after 5 years, I estimate its down to 50-60% of its original run time. An official battery from Mitre 10 is $329 and I've had one repack quote of about half that. Would be worth a punt for the small one.
