Nope, no new meter. Wife is ringing power co again today to find out whats going on and we have a sparkie friend coming to check things over to be certain.

With 2 young kids as well, not having hot water may start to get a bit on the nose ;) Youngest is hard enough to get into bath at home let alone at someone elses house...

Good that you have a sparkie friend.

If you need anyone else I can 100% recommend this guy, Rob Stevens, who looked at our cylinder on Saturday:

eracode: Now I have to try and get Vector to reimburse me for the sparkie's bill.

Good luck with that. Did you phone your power company to report the problem, and they told you that they had no problems, so you gave them the opportunity to fix it? If so you may have a case, but otherwise I don't think they will cover it.

Just to close this off:

I hadn't phoned the power company etc - just got the sparkie in.

I was confident that we had a strong case for reimbursement, given that someone had worked on our meter box without letting us know (even though they have the right to do that) and the work had caused the fault.

Although it was Vector's responsibility to get our hot water back on again, the fault was caused by a Contact Energy contractor (weird structure and relationships here). Accordingly our claim had to be against Contact, not Vector. Emailed Contact on Monday and yesterday - they called just now saying they will reimburse us and was it OK to credit what they owe us to our power bill due to be paid later in the week. Yes, thanks.

End of story (hopefully).

Edit: Confusing typo.

Wow!  Contact customer service has really improved, it used to be that you could never even get an answer out of them.
