I would definitely put the ONT in your star wiring position, kinda destroys the point of having a single point if you start distributing it. If you put the flexi condiuit in with draw wire from the ETP to your star wiring point is that not good enough?

floydie: ok so for my setup all i have to do is run a conduit in the wall of the garage down to the outside ETP point with 3 cat5e cables in it that run back to my media cupboard/star point/home distributor or whatever you want to call it on the diagonally opposite corner??

so do i still need power to be available for the ETP when fiber is installed or will the fiber run right through the ETP and up the wall conduit in place of the 3x cat5e over to my media cupboard/star point/distributor box?

perhaps i should run a conduit under the slab from the ETP over to the star point?

Power is not required @ the ETP (Never has and never will be) - only in your distribution point

- the 3 Cat5s back to the etp are in the recomendations document as: 1 for a draw wire to pull fibre through, 1 for copper voice services and 1 for a spare  (the Document was writen before we had compersite cables  - two flexable draw wires would be sufficient

- if you run conduit in the slab make sure water can not enter the conduit (while the house is being built around it ) as any water will break down the insulation on the cableing

the ont needs power not the etp if you put the ont in your comms cup. you need sockets in there anyway so you need a duct from etp to comms. for the hybrid cable

floydie:

I'm looking at having a media cupboard in the center of the house that the HTPC/AMP/Router/switch and maybe a UPS will be in.

definitely put the ONT in the media cupboard

2) do i run the green UFB fiber conduit and phone line to the outside of the building or to my media cupboard?

Chorus/Downers will accuse you of stealing their underground only conduit. I went to the plumbing wholesaler and got some black 20mm underground water pipe. I ran it up the wall from the ETP through the ceiling space and into my media cupboard...no joins, no sharp bends and honestly you can PUSH a piece of cat5 30m straight through it (try that with conduit.)

3) whats a good wifi router with a decent amount of wired ports? our lynksys is dying so its a good time to upgrade as the lynksys seemed unable to cope with more than 5 wireless devices at a time

find any good Gigabit POE switch , but remember this thing will be in the middle of your house so do not get one that requires fans to keep cool...ask me how I found that out the hard way...
as for the router, I like Draytek, they never crash and you can just spend as much as you can afford for more features etc

anything else i need to consider such as alarm integration or network CCTV??

if you are planning cameras you will need a POE switch (see above)
