I don't rinse anything before it goes in the Bosch. It gets everything clean.

Not eggs. If you don't pre rince things with egg on it, everything smells of eggs with bosch. Didn't notice the problem so much with asko.

I have an Asko - would not buy again.
It's old to be fair, but it sounds like a steam engine when it's running!
It cleans okay, but one of the rotating arms actually fell of a while ago (it actually snapped at the pivot point)... so, to be fair I could never recommend one.
I would consider a German made Bosch unit (44dB or so) or a Miele if I was buying again.

Bosch for us - replaced a failing F&P unit that came with the house when we bought it and haven't heard it going yet. Brilliant and the cutlery drawer at the top is excellent - wife wasn't sure about it at first but now swears by it.

thanks evryone. we narrowed it down to the Bosch and the new model 6608 Samsung.
they both look pretty much the same (not as sleek as our "old" samsung) but we preferred the plate layout and cutlery setup over the bosch.

For quality and "works well", go Bosch. We have their dryer and it is so much better than all the previous stuff we had. Guy at work has only Bosch appliances, speaks highly of every single one. When we were searching for a coffee machine (but did not buy), all the reviews said Bosch is the only one that does not burn the coffee at all.

Personally I like innovation from Samsung (and I know it is not a Galaxy, speaking from experience with a range of their appliances over 20 years).

Please confirm the Samsung model number, we will be in the market for one soon but could not find the model number you referred to. Searching only come up as Westinghouse. Thanks.

Get a Bosch - have one at work and it is amazingly quiet. We use Vario speed/normal takes about 1:20 for a full load. Just wish I had room in my kitchen to get one

ah doh yes the 6608 was the westinghouse! got that number stuck in my head.
the samsung was the DW-FG725L both prety good. just have to ask yourself whether you prefer the normal cutlery basket or a top draw.

Krishant007: I bought our dishwasher from Kitchen Things. We got a Smeg dishwasher (its an Italian brand).

Stay far away. A couple of years ago we built a new home and got Smeg-everything from the Auckland Home Show. We loved the specific oven, then got a package deal on all the appliances at a great price. Remember Italy is in financial crisis.

Double-door fridge is actually a Daewoo, made by them (identical to one sold at Mitre10). Water dispenser stopped working after about a year, had to get circuit board replaced. If out of warranty then the board by itself is around $700. A bit over a year later the fan in the freezer stopped, so everything thawed. After a long search I've found it is a very common issue as many brands use exactly the same fan. Works again when at room temperature, but soon freezes up at low temperature. Bought a replacement off eBay and saw shy it freezes up, there is a hard potting where the wires enter the fan and the potting does not stick well to the insulation so over time moisture wicks in and freezes up as the fridge does its defrost cycle. So I've covered it in food grade silicone sealer. We have now used the fridge for about 3 years, and on the control panel the LEDs that are always on (e.g. temperature setting) are so faint I can't read them any more unless I turn the lights off, they wear out from being driven too hard.

90cm oven clock failed after 1 year of use, but it was in storage for about 15 months before we started using it so Kitchen Things would not honour the 2 year warranty. In the end I've found a clock off eBay that fits, we like the display better, and has identical functions. Paid about $60 as opposed to Smeg's price of close to $1000. After 2 years of use the printing on the SS control panel is rubbing off, we now guess which knob is for which element.

Dishwasher works well, it is the "tall tank" model which can take lots of pots/pans. Otherwise, it is just a dishwasher, nothing fancy. After 2 years of use most of the SS control panel is pealing just like when a car's clear coat blisters. Usually it washes fine, but could be better. As noisy as any cheap washer. Our very old AEG Oko Favorit was better.

These appliances will be replaced in the next couple of years, will keep only the stove as it looks good and I can probably come up with some kind of labels we can print at work on clear permanent stock (we use them for power rating and compliance labels on products).

F&P dish drawer is a great concept especially for people with medical conditions. Guy at work has 2 mounted next to each other just under the bench as his wife has back issues. But the design with buttons inside the wet area requires the assembly to be perfect or else it fails. Good product concept, not the greatest execution (as with many F&P products, unfortunately).

SMEG are pushed pretty hard at Kitchen Things, they're the importer, so they get two effective bites of the margin cherry... plus it's not something you can shop around for a better price on.

Every brand has issues, but I'd stick with Bosch / Miele if possible.

Another +1 for Bosch.
Just brought a SMS68M12AU from Harvey Norman - very quiet.
Does a much better job than the old F&P it replaced (but is several model steps up to be fair)

Also Bosch topped the reliability tables - much less likely to break down.

The import agent for Smeg is Applico, whether that is the same company as Kitchen Things I'm not sure because you can get Smeg from other retailers.

On a recent kitchen update we replaced appliances with a range of brands. So far both the Smeg Oven and Convection Microwave have required service rectification. Both appliances had problems that could only be put down to poor quality control during manufacture. Considering the premium you pay for Smeg here this is pretty disappointing. Ultimately I am glad we didn't pay the sticker price.

Of all the appliances we are most happy with the Miele dishwasher. Not cheap, but super clean dishes and almost silent operation.

When the technician came to fix the oven I asked him about Smeg dishwashers and clothes washers, he wasn't particularly complementary.
