dolsen: I got charged $103.35 for1 days usage (new customer).
It seems they include all of the power used since the last meter was read, despite it being before you are a customer....

Actual 320 @ 14.08 c/unit Classic Night 45.06
Actual 164 @ 27.12 c/unit Classic Day 44.48
Daily Fixed Charge 1 days @ 33.33 c/day 0.33
Sub Total 89.87
GST 13.48
$ 103.35

Seems a bit off to me.

Just give them a call and let them know the date when you moved in to the house. I signed up with Genesis last month and had a couple of issues with the same thing; they don't know what to charge you unless they know when you moved in.

i have, but was never able to tell whether it's worth switching and to whom, i guess with a bit more digging i can now put some numbers down and do some math.

90c per day line charge
19c per kwh
i use around on average 1000kwh a month (less in summer more in winter)
i don't use disproportionately higher power between 11pm-7am

i will use these numbers and see, but doesn't look like i'm going to make much savings going elsewhere

techrebel: Did Anyone here receive an unusually high amount invoiced by Genesis
I'm pretty sure I haven't done anything unusual
just wondering  !!!!!!!!!!!

I thought I heard a report on the Radio NZ news this week that one of the power-cos had a major billing stuff-up that led to large bills this month as form of correction, I can't remember if it was Genesis or Contact though (I think the latter).

The main things to do/consider:

1) Check the readings on the bill against the meter (maybe someone transposed a number) (You said you have a dial meter: https://www.synergy.net.au/at_home/how_can_i_read_my_meter.xhtml + many other sites are the best to follow for 'how-to-read')
2) Look at the make/model of your meter and Google for it (Fair Go have done stories on meters in the past that suddenly go wonky, or always read high/low)
3) Did you recently get switched from a dumb meter to a smart meter (or infact, just get any meter upgrade outright)?  (They won't charge you for it, but the smart meters are known to be a bit more accurate, plus they need to recert/replace all meters by something like 2015/2016)
4) What have you brought/habits changed in the last 2 months that would cause more power use (heaters etc)?

It was contact, and I think it was last month for the early payment discount. I thought I missed out on my 20 or 25% off for early payment, but there was a credit the next month.
