Bunnings, Mitre10 etc sell a tomato cage kit that clips together.

$8 on sale?

Multiple kits let you get creative. I use two interlocked cages per 75litre garden container. I love em. The horizontal snap-ons will eventually get brittle with UV expose, but I have most all my cage pieces going strong into their 6th summer.

I didn't see that kind of kit when I was there. I don't have much depth so staking into the soil may not be practical for me.

Tomatoes are coming along well! Couple feet high now.

Might have been that weird sample picture I used with irrelevant bucket etc.

This is a better picture of what they look like

Sold as a 3 green plastic coated stakes and some horizontal snaps. They pack away nicely for winter, which is handy. I haven't seen any this year, but haven't looked either.

I haven't found anything better, but I'm a chump. I dunno what a real guru gardener would think.

That's the kind of thing I do with bamboo stakes to form a tripod. Because a tripod is self-supporting it doesn't need much depth to sit in. My stakes are all down so I can't post a pic but if you imagine that tomato kit in a conical shape then you will get the idea.

I get the idea of a bamboo tripod, and that it wouldn't take much in the way of soil depth. I've built the system for the freestanding box now, and I have a mesh staple gunned to the walls for the tomatoes. I'll post a tomato photo some time :)

Here's what I did with the tomatoes, out of interest.
