No, it was a white knight paving paint that listed garages as one of the uses. Never saw car traffic but it would stick to the bottoms of anything left on the floor, like the feet of the compressor etc.

minimoke: Don't get me started on eqc /eqr. My house is finally getting fixed so my blood pressure has reduced marginally. There is something like 50 lineal metres of cracking repairs to the floor which was 2 years old before eq,s and now looks worse than patch work quilt. I can't face another battle with eqc (I still have at least 6 months more grief with them yet) so I'm going to do the floor and try charging costs back to them. To be fair I put tons of reo in the slab when the concrete was poured so most crackING was hairline - not enough to stick fingers in.

As an aside they like paint. They have tried painting overy cracks. So when the eqr guy comes along he says " I don't see any damage" so nothing more will be done. Dumb buggers don't know I have photos. And there's cracking already because foundation remedial weren't done. As for their engineers who recommend no remedials after taking no measurements or levels and their dodgy experts who write factually wrong reports to suit their pre determined positions...... damn, I said don't get me going!!!!!

I've been thinking about this, while I've been covered in plaster dust and paint.

I'd advise against painting the floor (yet) but by all means investigate cost/methods.
EQC probably won't reimburse your costs. They are immune from prosecution through disputes tribunal and district court (they're governed by act of parliament - so you need to stick with their hapless complaints process - or take it to the high court, where they'll throw limitless money at any case to try to knock you into place, until they bleed you dry). So they'll just ignore your requests for payment - that's what they do.

It's only a garage floor, from the sound of it (inadequately repaired foundations) you have more immediate and concerning problems. Deal with those, and put the garage floor on the back burner.

Resene Aquapoxy. This also restates what other's have said about rising moisture. It suggests that you tape down a segment of clear plastic sheet and checking for moisture.

Dont I know it - I got a cheque for $850 the other day. No idea what for. Turned out to be for something I claimed 3 1/2 years ago. I figure I've got at least $1k worth of excess up my sleeve which they can go whistle for if they start pursuing me for that. Every day I get stronger so not too worried about battles. I'm now two steps forward, one back so that makes a change.

Sure its a just a garage - but after all this time and grief I am working at erasing every possible reminder I can. The idea of walking every day on a crack filled floor, reminding me of it all does me no good. So I reckon money well spent.

So tomorrow I'm off and will also no doubt be covered in dust at the end of it.

Thanks MDF. I think thats what i will go with. The garage floor is below some rooms and is relatively undamaged. Thanks to the ton of reo in it. Damage was just the 50m of essentially hairline cracks thats apart from the walls which came away a bit from the house - but I think the floor is OK!. Its other separate parts of teh house where they didnt look at the foundations. I've had plastic down and no sign of moisture. Which isnt surprising - I saw the amount of water proofing stuff that went under the floor before it was originally poured and I think it has survived OK.

Nothing like a project for the weekend!

My parents used a two part resene epoxy product. They have had no problems with it not sticking to the concrete.

It did fade quite a lot though. This is probably over about 6 years.

One of the tactics used by insurance companies - and by EQC - is to wear people down. A consistent thing that's happened with many people I know is the "change of case manager" excuse/trick pulled by insurers, or alternatively it's the "lost file". So you go back to square one, through the whole process again and again and again. I believe it's deliberate psychological manipulation - they do it on purpose so that claimants lower their expectations
You can start questioning yourself ("maybe it's me - not them").
It's going to get a whole lot worse for some people - EQC (after 4 years FFS) still haven't passed thousands of over-cap claims over to insurers. Meanwhile, insurers are tightening the purse strings. IAG has reportedly come close to reaching the limit of reinsurance, so would need to dip into reserves.

They tried teh old "change of case Manger" but that back fires. When they are useless you have zero expectation of the next person and they never fail to disappoint. "Lost File" - well used to that, engineers report, drainage plans, receipts - all disappeared into the abyss known as EQC. Biut I have copies and increasing energy so they can try what they like

Is PVC Vinyl covering for Garage floor any good? Opinions? Or would it be better to use garage floor paint?

Do you want to use it later again as a garage? Vinyl does not fair well with hot car tyres or oil, it changes colour and gets indentations.

Sorry, I got mixed up with another post. Thought you are the one that is converting a garage fir his kid to play drums.

You will have to put cardboard on top of the vinyl, else it will leave drops/puddles of oil for you to step in. But anyway, in my opinion vinyl quickly looks ugly when you drive over it or part a car on it as it stretches and deform at very low temperature. You might be better off with a concrete sealer, but it needs to be solvent based to get sufficient strength and you are back to having to do an acid etch (which takes only a few minutes). Holdfast Permaglaze would be good, but it seems to be no longer on their web site.
