Anything with briggs and stratton motor. Cheapest is cobra from mitre 10. Or something comparable from Bunnings etc. Paid $299. Wife tried to kill it by attacking the trampoline which snapped ... Still works though something is vibrating a lot. No rust.

Have one of those and have been using it for 7 odd years now, mowing 800sqm thick wet lawn for 3 of those years and about 300sqm for the other 4.

Its only just starting to fall apart now and will be up for replacement soon.

My EXISTING mower I hate has a 158CC BS motor, it's the most gutless engine I've seen on a mower.

I don't really get how a 190cc motor wouldn't be more powerful and able to cut grass better. Am I missing something?

richms: My current mower has a blade that is a giant disc with 4 swinging blades on it, the last one just had a metal bar that seemed to be combination propeler/fan and blade so it actually pushed the clippings thru.

Current one constantly clogs. It has a "smart chute" which is BS, have to have a coat hanger to hold it open since the hole when in side discharge is so small it just clogs.

I have a blue piece of twine, looped at each end to raise the catcher cover a bit. Not OSH compliant I'd say

Ive found if I open it and then open the "smart chute" it will catch on the bar on the handle and be open. Just have to stand to the right of the mower when using it so all the crap doesnt hit your shins. Luckily the self go fowards handle is easy to squeeze from the side and it has enough guts to get along the lawn parallel to the slope.

If your grass is so long and dense, You need to cut in two goes.

Cut it shorter, ie max out the height of your mower first go, then cut down to the height you want second go.

In fact if it's so dense and long you might just use a weedhacker and save your frustration.

I got one of those. Rubbish catching, I have twine to hold it up. Often I mow anti clockwise without catcher to mow over the cuttings, poor mans mulch.

Mine doesnt rev very high. Maybe Im used to the old mowers that revved at F1 levels if required. Slight exaggeration. However, it seems to have good torque. It doesnt bog on load.Unbolt blade, shave with a hand grinder, 10 minute job. Knife through butter.

I agree, Im thinking that. Mowers generally have good grunt, as long as the blade is ok, any issues are probably the grass is too long or too thick.

Strange as I would have thought lawn master is the best in nz for consumer push mowers they are nz made chassis from nz aluminium basically the only manufacturer that can call itself truly nz made.

In saying that my neighbour purchased a lawn master used it once didn't like it compared to mine went back and got the slightly more expensive 190cc model and loves it now (mitre 10 were good and allowed him to exchange for only the price difference between models). We have nothing but kikuyu grass and my lawn master has no problem even when I take awhile between mowing.
