@mattrix if you want the credit for my signup you'll need to send me "your details", according to EK. Not sure what that means, but name and perhaps the street or area you live in might be enough.

@mattrix yeah got this back from them:

Hi Michael

Simply send us the details of your friend who referred you and we will add it to your account so that once the electricity is switched to us both of you will receive the refer a friend credit towards your account.

You can hop on the live chat between Mon to Fri or you can email us the details.

Cheers

Feel free to flick the details to us via PM if you're wanting the credit - I think they're onto us :)

Edit: I'm now on Flick Electric.

I set up a switch to Electric Kiwi the other day (from Flick, unsurprisingly!) and realised I'd not used mattrix's link, so at that point via online chat asked how to add it retrospectively. She asked me for my "friend's name or address", so a very quick check on his GZ profile revealed his name at least - giving her that and the URL seemed to keep her satisfied, as she said it was set up against both our accounts.

@mattrix - how many referrals is that now?!

Anyone know how long it takes to switch once payment details are lodged with EK? I know it's up to ten days, but what have people found? Just curious.

@jonathan18

I'm sitting on 4x referrals at present.
It's been on that for about a week so don't think any of the new sign-ups have come through yet.
I'm going to use the power credit to keep my 1070 rig up mining those Siacoins!

I hope people are finding the Android app handy :)

Remember you can change the hour at any point up till midnight for the day.
The schedule is a good feature to set each days "default" free power hour.
It sets it at 12:15, so you can change it at any point during the day and not worry about the app setting it back to the scheduled hour.

EK says the Flick to EK transition is often taking close to the maximum of ten days at the moment. It's based on how long it takes Flick to authorise the transfer. I guess they're pretty busy and the process requires human intervention.

Just got the bad news Paua to the Power are getting rid of their Simple As plan which is a non-spot pricing version based on quarterly adjustments.  I am not willing to take the risk on spot pricing as have gear that must run so has brought me to Electric Kiwi.  Question is has anyone got a controlled hot water cylinder connected on EK??

If so what does the pricing on that look like?  it doesnt say on their website just in the faq the following

Controlled supply means that there is a separate electricity supply to your hot water cylinder which your lines company can switch off for short periods during the day. The lines company passes on a reduction in your bill when you allow appliances to be switched off, regardless of whether the supply is ever turned off or not.

When you sign up to Electric Kiwi, we search the Electricity Authority's nationwide database to determine what set up you have. You'll automatically be allocated the best rates we have for this set up, which will mean your rates will be lower if you have controlled supply.

I'm on Controlled plan (according to https://www.ea.govt.nz/consumers/your-power-data-in-your-hands/my-meter/).

My pricing is 0.26$ + 0.34$ for Northern Network (W+N Auckland).

Plugging in an address I know doesn't have controlled hot water, the per kWh rate stays the same but the daily rate is higher when uncontrolled. (Palmerston North, $0.78 inc GST controlled / $1.00 inc GST uncontrolled).

I'm on their online chat at the moment trying to find out the answer, as I'm on controlled/uncontrolled as well - based in Wellington

To which they responder:

We offer flat rates basis the meter configuration and the network area. These rates are including both your controlled and uncontrolled components

Which makes no sense..

I am with Electric Kiwi & have controlled hot water supply. Unfortunately there is just one unit price for both controlled & uncontrolled so a small saving is lost there but overall allowing for a minumum of 8% ( as suggested ) of free power you should definately be ahead in the savings.  We are much better off to date since we changed over. You can PM me for a referal if you wish.

Sweet, thanks man, will look into it.

There's a bit of savings for me there compared to powershop, I'd have saved $37.03 on my last bill which includes the 1.5% CC surcharge and excludes the free hour of power too.

Signed up to EK now, only downside (if you can call it that) is they only allow a maximum of 14 characters for passwords.

It took a bit of trial and error to find out as they don't provide any sort of indication as to why your password doesn't meet their criteria
