540trickzter: Check out Asko and Vast. Both down Moorhouse Have. The new Freedom Furniture also just opened this week down Moorhouse aswell.
True - that seems to be "furniture central" in Chch now,
Harvey Norman, Farmers, Hunter, Asko, Vast, Global, and Freedom on that stretch, at least 3 lighting stores, appliance stores, kitchen specialists etc.
One more that's worth a look is McKenzie and Willis - but for the time being they're way out from the town centre, another is Casual and Country in Ferrymead, 10 minutes east toward Sumner.

Another row of furniture places (mostly pricier ones) runs from the south end of Papanui Road and up Victoria Street - Citta, Boconcept, Matisse, Cavit & Co, Belle Interiors.
Then there's Blenheim Road which has Trenzseater, Mckenzie and Willis, Early Settler, Target and, if you keep heading west, D A Lewis in Sockburn.
Also, if you're interested in mid century vintage as suggested above, Mr Mod is the place to go in Christchurch.
