quebec: Well only reason for putting NVR in ceiling was to avoid getting it stolen in case of a break in, where else can you put it?
The top of a wardrobe.
I have done many camera installs. Very easy with roof space access.
Drilling up the soffit will be fine, Very easy to tell if there is framing behind the area you are after.. Chances of a power cable in the soffit is very very slim. I have never know someone to put power in a soffit unless there is a sensor light mounted on the soffit itself.. So that will be fairly obvious.
Pulling the cable should be easy, You may have a lintel running across the top plate depending on where you mount it. There should still be clearance between that and the roof.
I found if you get some Gib Strapping (Flat plastic straps) you can pull these cables with ease.
Avoid running the Ethernet near power. Do not raise the cable above the joists. Get some pin clips and pin clip it the whole way back to the NVR.
Power in the roof will be easy if you want to mount the NVR up there, Sparkie will have to do it. Would just require some 2.5MM cable, a junction box, riser plate and a single power point.
Under 1 hours work and about $20 in materials.
Cheers
