thudding when you add water is your plumbing not the washing machine. no different to turning off any other tap in the house.

Can you please advise the model number? Might have been discontinued but still want to have a look

Regardless its obviously better to wait for a decent sale as I presume most will have finished yesterday.

I've never been able to figure out if paying more means you're getting better quality or are just paying for the name...

We have been happy by spending more money on a vacuum but cannot say it for sure for everything.

We've got a miele, yes they are expensive. Does a good job.....some towels we have to over 10 years we thought were clean, but came out a lot better after a run or two through the FL. Their condemsor dryer isn't bad either, though does tend to tangle sheets a bit...

Our Miele Duo Dose has been brilliant - the Condensor dryer is also a winner in our books.

Some top of the line Bosch units have had issues when used with fabric softener... their argument is to never use it.

F&P's second gen front loaders are apparently very good and certainly look to be excellent value for money.

AEG is simply rebranded Electrolux... check the inside of the drum for the raised seam where it is joined - not great finishing.

Compare it to a Bosch or Miele and you'll see what I mean...

Well true but I guess it uses a solenoid or something so it obviously switches the supply pretty quickly, hence the noise.

You probably need a pressure limiting valve installed on the water supply to your house. High water pressure stresses the solenoid valves.

Eek. I hope not. Its never (apparently) been a problem before. The old washing machine survived OK. If its for the whole house would it reduce it a bit or a lot ? Don't you have to replace high pressure fittings with low pressure fittings or something ?

The new F&P washer/dryer combos say up to 150PSI is fine. I assume that would be the same on a normal washer.

In the manual its says water pressure 50-800kPa which is 7-116psi. Hope thats OK. I presume as machine is officially available in NZ its designed to cope with typical NZ water pressures (whatever they are).

We bought one last year, after seeking advice here on GZ (see this thread).

Ended up with a mid-range Bosch - I think this is the Bosch near the top of the Consumer recommended list, posted above, with that model 'exclusive' to HN's (this model here).

Wished we'd replaced our top-loading F&P way earlier; while we were initially put off by the long cycle times, we've found in reality for 80% of our loads we can use a quick setting (1 hour), and the washing and spinning is still way superior to the old machine!

You'll see from the thread I linked to above we were looking for a model that we can add stuff part way through a cycle - I'm sure a few brands let this do you now (and Samsung has the model with the extra 'door' to let you do this). Many don't see the value of this, but we certainly find it valuable.

Edit: and it's worth saying the machine we got is really quiet; it took a bit of ensuring it was well-balanced (before that it was pretty noisy!), but since then it's certainly quieter than the old top-loader.

One thing to take into account is whether having the washing associated with a baby means the generally faster times of a top loader is an advantage - we used reusable nappies for our boys and so had a load or two to do most days, and I'm not sure if 2-3 hour cycles would have been practical.

Second edit: Note - I think most front-loaders also work off solely the cold water (heating their own water) - which is one of the reasons they take longer; if you heat your water with gas then there'll be a transfer of power usage from one to the other. (For us this was a benefit as it means we do a load most days timed for our 'hour of free power' with Electric Kiwi - as such, given most of our loads are also one hour, the only running cost is the detergent.)

Sounds like a bad design as well. If the solenoid shuts off instantly rather than gradually, the pressure wave ("water hammer") can damage your pipes.

We bought a Bosch about 10 years ago, it hasn't met a service technician yet and it does a good job. If it breaks, we'll buy another Bosch or maybe Miele as a step up

Can you advise the model please for Bosch
