we built a new house about a year ago and after talking to a lot of companies decided to go with daikin, we have a ducted daikin for the bedrooms and a normal Cora mini split in the lounge and are extremely happy with both.

I have a Daikin Cora 5kw and my only issue is the fan speed changing. If say I set the fan speed on medium, it switches off when at setpoint, and then goes on and off every few minutes. Theres no way to stop it doing this as its an energy saving setting. I would rather the fan and background noise was constant.

We have an older 5kw Daikin in our living area.

Last house we installed a 9kw Panasonic (4 years ago).

This house will be getting a 5kw Panasonic in the main lounge (as it will also do our bedroom).

Daikin is alright, but not worth the extra money over Panasonic.

I prefer the fan speed / noise to be constant as its less noticable.

we have the 7kw version and apart from the 10-15 min of first turning it on if it's really cold/hot in the room leaving it on auto fan generally has the fan running on its lowest setting.

That's why you put it on auto.. it just slows right down to a constant, no cycling when the room reaches temp. It only speeds up again if really needed.

I don’t think you are understanding what I’m saying. In either mode - auto or constant fan speed, the fan switches OFF when at setpoint in heating. I’ve spoken to Daikin technical support and they have told me it can’t be changed as its energy saving feature required for MEPS. The fan slows down when it nears setpoint, then switches off. When the room temp drops the fan switches on again.

No we didn't because you said you kept it on a certain setting... you didn't say you'd tried auto.

Nice... Remind me not to buy another Daikin then (mine doesn't do that) :D

What were the reasons you went with Daikin over other brands and is your Cora a multi-split?

Na the Cora is a single, we went with 2 completely different units so that we could have independent controls for each E.g. one in heat and the other in cool and different temps.

I spoke to a few guys who repair them and the general consensus seemed to be that out of all of the brands the daikin are the most reliable and if they do go wrong it’s easier to get parts and they seem a lot more tech friendly to get into and service.

There is a jumper you can cut in each of the remote and the indoor unit (at least on Daikin units) to set the remote to a second address, to fix the two-unit problem.

danielfaulknor:

My parents recently got two Panasonic units installed. They made this awful high pitched noise, all the time.

The ended up getting them removed (yes you read correctly) and Daikin installed. Now they're super happy...

Would be interested in what Panasonic model to avoid (and figured you might be visiting them over the holidays)
