5kw heatpump recommendation
Talking specifics here .e.g. Daikin Cora 5kw vs. Mitsi Ecocore 5kw v Panasonic Aero 5kw v Other 5kw?
Not much between them specs wise, all pretty efficient for this size/model - Daikin and Pana 4/4.5, Mitsi 4/3.5
Panasonic $500+ cheaper than Mitsi, a bit more again for Daikin.
How to choose?

I'm happier with my 7 year old Daikin than my 5 year old Fujitsu. It's quieter, slightly less efficient (but it's older), but very effective. The Fujitsu Nocria is SUPER loud, doesn't have as much control over the airflow. New models may be different.

Thanks, yeah no Nocria anymore, the ones I'm looking are all less than 5 years old I think as they use newer R32 refridgerant
Need to take a closer look at sound levels. Fuji "e3" is 3.5/3.5 effciency so not as good as the other three and a bit more expensive than Pana atm.

Definitely check what refrigerant they use. As there are still models available that use the older R410a.

Also check what their minimum output is. As a lower min output means less cycling on and off when only a small amount of heating or cooling is needed.

Ok cool, Mitsi eliminated due noticably higher min kw output kw and louder indoor. Panasonic has best min kw output closely followed by Daikin

My parents recently got two Panasonic units installed. They made this awful high pitched noise, all the time.

The ended up getting them removed (yes you read correctly) and Daikin installed. Now they're super happy...

If I was starting the heating / cooling thing from scratch I'd get a multi-room system. The rooms the heat pumps are in are great, but it would be super useful to have cooling in my toddler's bedroom, and our bedroom. Heating can go around a couple of corners, but I find cooling bedrooms more difficult - it takes a couple of big fans to get around corners. It's not worth doing now though, maybe if one fails.

Just had 3 Panasonics installed at home. New ones, R32 etc. In quiet mode they are very quiet - there's one in the bedroom just above my head and it is almost silent. I have to turn off the nanog filter as it has a blue LED indicator when it on and I can't sleep with that shining at me (I'll put some tape over it at some point when I remember and it isn't 3am).

The bigger unit we have installed in the dining/kitchen is also quiet, but when you want things cooled down (or heated up) fast, the noisy mode really pumps the heat!

It replaced a ~15yr Mitsubishi that was in the house when we bought it and died shortly after. Not really relevant to current models sorry.

Compare the COP and sound levels for each unit. The higher the COP the more efficient the unit.

Panasonic aero is best for both of those for 5kw model, also slighty lower minimum output and stronger airflow rate, people still seem to prefer Daikin though ... the 2.5kw US7 is in a class of its own but other than that I'm not sure what it is about them.

The Daikin US7 is much more expensive compared to a standard heat pump. But they also incorporate a ventilation system that no other heat pump has. There is an additional 50mm pipe from a fan in the outdoor unit that provides fresh air. Worth investigating if you are in the market for a ventilation system (like HRV - cringe) too.
