..."When you say $1500 and $1600 is that the unit or the cost to have each of them installed (or both)?".....

That was for the units and installation.

Ok just dug through my emails, looks like my memory is slightly off re the costs though. Both were on special.

Panasonic CS/CU-Z7RKR - $1899

Panasonic CS/CU-Z35TKR - $1449

The second order was a little funny as I had actually ordered a CS/CU-Z9RKR, but they ran out of stock and offered me the larger unit which I didn't really want/need, but accepted.

Somehow hope that helps as a comparison.

Thanks, have gotten a second quote on a unit that will cost around your pricing there, so 30% cheaper than my original quote - pays to shop around.

Sorry to hijack the thread but we also got a quote for a Hitachi unit at $999 + Installation. Problem is that the installation is $750 back to back on the second floor. Seems kinda steep.

I was complaining about an install on the ground floor that was back to back being steep at $1300-$1400.  From what I have read $750 is a standard install price.

Interesting. Quoting $750 + GST which makes the Hitachi over 2K, which by my standards isn't a super "cheap" heat pump. I am wondering what components of a $1700 Incl GST Heat Pump varies. $999 seems like a cheap heat pump, but perhaps that's not that cheap, or perhaps some installers work cheaper than others.

Pays to get a few quotes. I had 3x heat pumps installed a few months ago (3-head multi split). I knew what models I wanted - Mitsubishi ones to match my existing heat pump plus the ability to control via Home Assistant (home automation software).

The install was pretty complex - all on internal walls so needed a fair bit of tricky pipe routing up and down plastered walls, and the external unit on the roof of the first floor. Was an all day job for 3 people.

The quotes were quite different. All for the same job, with the same units, the price ranged from $7,500 to over $10,000. In the end I went with the $7,500 quote - not because it was the cheapest, but because they impressed me the most with what they said they could and could not do in what wasn't an easy install. And the result was very good. Some of the more expensive quotes the installers wanted to do things with piping and condensate pumps that would have made for a messier and uglier install overall.

Suspect there was a bit of a tax on some of the quotes because of the PITA nature of the job, but the point is shop around and make sure you're getting a realistic quote for the job, but also a sense that the installers will do a high quality job and not take shortcuts that will make for an ugly install that you can't fix later.

I am checking these guys out....Anyone used them? Seem to cover a large geographic area.

But, I might like to bump the model up by one. Not sure how that affects price as they don't say.

I want this for cooling , not heating though as we already have underfloor heating.

Would a dedicated aircon be better?

Back in another life I used to talk to a lot of business owners as part of my job...

Every time I was dealing with heatpump installers I got them to list their competition in a 1-10 scale, without fail Daikin was rated as the number one brand in innovation and reliability. Yes, more expensive, but they all wanted to get their hands on Daikin if at all possible.

The other part that would come up from those with the best reputation was that the installers were 'fridgies' and not just sparkies looking to get some quick cash during the key heatpump install times.

For the record, now I have a heatpump in our place I can sleep during this silly hot weather... if it works and keeps working, frankly it's worth whatever you pay!
