Trig - it stays on for about 20-30 seconds, so that’s what makes me think something definitely isn’t right!

Can you take a picture of the water pump? It might need the pressure tank bled to release the build up of air if it is of that type. But you can get a new JET pumps of trademe from $200. PM and I can recommend one. 2 years and still going strong.

I used to live in the country, we had amazing pressure from a two pump bore system.

The shower however was hopeless, I pulled apart the the shower mixer and there were two filters like on a washing machine water inlet.

I removed the gunge and once this was done the shower was almost as good as a water blaster.

As for the pump, if it has an air chamber you might need to drain it and recompress the chamber, a car tyre foot pump or 12v compressor is sufficient.

Does your property have anywhere with enough elevation for a header tank? Having a pump going on and off all the time would drive me nuts (going into our local village at nights and hearing them droning away in all directions grates on my nerves). We have a header with 10 or so outlets feeding different areas so they have independent pressure, topped up during the day from a couple of 20,000l and a 30,000l tank well away from the house.

Can't you also use a pressure tank to reduce the number of on and off cycles, with small amounts of water use?

Not really unfortunately! The pump isn’t housed so I’m hoping that a housing unit and insulation will help with the noise, but it doesn’t bother me too much, as long as it’s working properly!

That sounds hopeful SATTV, thank you! Sounds like we need to definitely have a look at the shower. Having said that, the pressure in the other taps is sufficient but not great. I’m not too bothered about the taps though, its the shower I’m desperate to fix!

I’ll relay the above pump info to my partner who will be investigating the pump. Thanks for the reply!

Has the pump got a pressure tank on it? if so that could be waterlogged or the bladder could have perished.

An idea would be to put a 20" or a 10" 5-micron filter to filter out all the sediment that the pump would then pump into the house.

We had a 20" 5-micron filter for filtering out all the sediment and replaced that every year and never had a problem.

I will describe it! Its a GPS brand pump, Modle GPS-8V, Tank Volume 8 Litres, Connection Size: 1' Male BSP, Max pressure 10 bar, Date 2012.

Quick update - spent our first night in the house and after having showers, the pump seemed to carry on running all night (or at least on and off in the night). Still running now. Double checked no taps had been left on. Very odd. We can hear it from the bedroom so it seems strange that the previous owners lived like this for 17 years.
