A new saw (esp a table saw) is a bit of an investment for a one-off job though?

It depends if 33coupe is single or not. "I need to buy $thing_I_want in order to do $thing_spouse_wants" is always a good investment.

That is my justification for most things - table saw included :)

That comment about being single did crack me up. I'm dating so haven't got to that stage yet.
Might be a good time to buy all these things now before we move in together etc haha.

She did make a comment about going on a wood working course...lol

Sorry for bumping old Post. Just a quick update (in case it helps anyone)

Still not completely finished as I want to fit doors (and not completely satisfied with back panel) but it's an improvement I guess.

Just joining the discussion: If you're thinking to put an amplifier/receiver, DVD player, set-top box, gaming console, etc in there, along with their power supplies and other bits and pieces, then you might consider having no back at all, or at least cutting lots of big holes in it.

Oh yep thanks for that. Sorry I didn't mention about the back and ventilation. Was always a concern of mine, as I know heat and dust are an electronics killer.

Do you think the below is good enough? Approx 2cm Gap all across the top

Our cabinet has both an amp/receiver and a HTPC. I started with about a 50mm slot top and bottom and that wasn't enough. I ended up cutting away most of the back in that section, leaving just the outside bit to provide stiffening and fixing. But it's one of those things you can just try and modify if necessary. The first indication I got of overheating was flakey video through the amp/receiver.
