Maybe I should look into a bidet- do they clean themselves? That would be great- otherwise based on replies its sounds like Caroma would be practical.

All new toilets are designed to hold less water in the bowl. So unfortunately "Skid Marks" are a problem in any new toilet.

Some even have  levels like shelves in them, which makes it even worse. Some of the European ones are ok. But I have found the flush valve gaskets on some of the more expensive ones don't last long before they develop blister bubbles, and need replacing. They also cost a fortune for what they are. Easy to replace though, but a hassle to order though a wholesaler, as most manufacturers tend to want people to buy through their wholesaler instead of selling direct.

Wish I could try one out but I am really not willing to sit on a toilet in a store with people  looking at me.

As if your s...

A few seconds sitting on a loo in front of strangers you will never see again, only a few of whom will have their phones ready to capture the moment, or a lifetime of the other half nagging about the crapper you selected, which would you prefer?

May I recommend comfort be added to your list of requirements? Some of those 'modern' toilets are horrible to sit on. Nothing wrong with a cheap Caroma. We went with the cheapest because it had the best feel.

Absolutely. Dare I say it but these cheap Asian imports or Asian 'made for' are designed for their bum widths and not us Kiwi/Aussie widths. When we renovated our 2000 house we updated the toilet to a Mitre10 special "Englefield Valencia close coupled toilet suite". The plumber even said, rather disparagingly, "oh you bought one of these, Mitre10 special I suppose". Anyway we have found that said seat is a bit narrow. Our old Caroma seat was way more comfortable.

Not sure what your budget is but have you considered a full bidet system they are fantastic.

For the past 25 years have always used a toilet hose bum gun washer for which I gained an appreciation for in a 1979 Air force deployment to Malaysia. 2nd best thing to a full bidet. 3 to 4 sheets of toilet paper to dry and all is done. Plus the hose is way quicker and more hygienic to hose those skid marks off the bowel than a brush.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.
