Hello,

I am looking to go through and replace all of our lighting with LED's.

Has anyone had this experience of going through the whole house and replacing all current lighting with LED's?

Not looking for any home automation, just swap out old for new - bulb out LED in.

Does anyone have any recommendations on this topic?

Old farmhouse, no recessed fittings, just lots of light bulbs in many rooms, both Edison and Bayonet. I like lots of light and bought 80 standard bulbs of both kinds, 15 watt (=100 watt), warm white, on Aliexpress. Some of the bulbs have been in constant use for six months or more, some are more recent additions. I had two or three failures out of the whole bunch, which isn't bad. The failures didn't do anything dramatic, just stopped working. One was flickering between full bright and less bright. Other than that, no issues.

I also bought bulk bulbs from AliExpress, but not quite in those volumes! While the R80 bulbs in the kitchen/dining have been ok, if a little dim, the ‘candle’ bulbs in the lounge seemed to work on some weird refresh rate as the strobing with any fast movement was fairly chronic. Have replaced the whole light fitting, and put five of those Philips bulbs I linked to previously - this is also the main reason why I’m wary about buying other bulbs o/s without some local assurance they’re actually ok.

I haven't had any real issues. Some of the bulbs may be a little less bright than they should be but nothing major, maybe about the same as the 11-watt bulbs available at Bunnings or Mitre 10.

Countdown often has specials on Philips LED. Comes in various Lumen levels to suit. Changed the whole house out over a few shops (chuck a few in basket each time). Brighter in areas like kitchen and lounges, less in other areas. None failed so far and that was over a year ago. Savings in power have been a bonus.

We got our bulbs from Lighting Plus. 5 year guarantee, expert advice, and cheaper than Bunnings or M10.

Lazy is such an ugly word, I prefer to call it selective participation

Living room has 8 lights use to be 100 watts each now they are 8 watt LED. Replaced bedrooms and bathroom with led as well. Have feninatoey noticed less power use. Just watch out if you get dimmable led

I replaced 15 downlights across 2 lounges and the kitchen with LED downlights from Lighting Direct a couple of years ago. Got them from Lighting Direct at a good price (included transformers) and had an electrician mate install dimmers for the lounge ones. Like timmay I scan all my receipts, especially as most of them come on thermal paper that fades like crazy in a short space of time which wouldn't be helpful if they were needed for warranty purposes. Various other bulbs around the house have either had LED replacements or I'm waiting for the energy efficient ones to burn out. It's a well worth it move in terms of saving on power.

Gee i would have thought Bunnings & M10 would have been cheaper, good to know.

About eight years ago when we moved into our new home, I replaced every one of the approx fifty incandescent bulbs with LED and put the now unwanted in a cupboard.... they are still there!

I just replaced some cheap Ebay G9 LEDs in our bathroom mirror lighting with the original incandescent. The ebay LEDs seem to pulsate very quickly rather than give steady light, I didn't like the light quality. Cheap LEDs aren't nice.

They often aren't and they're really failure prone. Or they start shimmering. The Philips went downhill after they downgraded to 15,000 lifespan The only cheap LEDs I've found to be good are the ones for enclosed spaces like R80 as they have to be designed better (Philips R63 was terrible though). I got a Panasonic bulb recently and it's noticeably better than Philips which may be why Countdown stopped selling them. Early Philips and Osram LEDs with the exterior metal heatsinks had great longevity. Is there anyone making bulbs of that quality still?

Recently changed out our house with standard and PAR38 FSL bulbs in warm white from PBTech. Got a mix of 5,10 & 13W bulbs. In our environment I prefer the 5W units, I prefer evening light to be subdued and we have quite a lot of light positions as a holdover from when we were off-grid 30 years or so ago. Will probably just use the 13W units in the shed.
