I've been with OurPower since August 2018.  No issues.  Already had a WEL smart meter when I took over the tenancy.  Weekly billing can be annoying if you run a flat and like to send out the bills to flatmates though (5 bills a month vs 1 or 2).

MrAmerica: Probably explains why WEL stopped the Day Night rates in Wellington, gearing up to supply themselves?

WEL is not the lines company in Wellington.  WELs area is a smallish patch of the country including Hamilton, Huntly, Raglan and extends from Meremere to North of Pirongia in the Waikato.

Wellington Electricity are the lines company in Wellington.

Signed up a week ago, waiting on the changeover. Genesis kindly charged me a $150 contract cancellation fee. Nice of them. Even so the flate rate with ourpower is lower than the controlled rate I was paying, never mind the anytime rate or the daily line charges. By my calculations it'll take about 3 months to save that cancellation fee.

gulfa:

Oh no! It looks like we can’t service that property

I get this message Any idea why

Thanks

There's several reasons it could be.

1) WEL isn't your lines company - if you live on the edge of hamilton you may actually be with another lines company (if it finds your ICP in the search then it's in the region, otherwise I think it says it can't service your area)

2) Your property is too new and isn't in the database yet

3) Your gas line is too close to your meter (current limitation of WEL smart meters)

4) Your smart meter doesn't communicate with the grid

easiest way to findout is to use the contact to them.
