Take the time to get a bit tested if you're going to do some work on a pre 80s house (I'd say do it anyway). Mine is 60s and thankfully it's not asbestos.

What's not asbestos? If it is 60s and has fibre cement then AFAIK it's inevitable. An alternative product was oil tempered hardboard. That didn't have any asbestos

Restarting this thread with my particular camera specs to check that "cameras weigh nothing" applies.

I am looking to install the Reolink 811A camera to the soffit. This weight just under 900g. Is that considered nothing and will be fine to mount? To me the soffit fibre board (whatever it is called) seems very thin when I push on it (I cannot measure its thickness) , are they all standard sizes or could we have thin ones?

And wouldn't screwing into it just bore it out? What does the screw bite into to give it strength and prevent it just pulling through?

I could always use barbed gib plugs or perhaps those toggles someone said they used if people think that is a better idea.

If it's some sort of fibre board and has been up there for awhile it could have all the structural value of single-ply cardboard. If you push on it is there any give? Alternatively, does it feel like you could push your finger through it without too much effort?

You may be able to get away with wall anchors, but I'd use snaptoggles to get the maximum amount of surface contacting the soffit, and given where you're installing them, SS ones rather than the usual plated mild steel.
